CALLING EXPATS IN DOHA......ADVICE PLEASE

Hi guys.
Hope everyone is ok....
I need advice as my hubby has been asked to go out to doha for a few years to work....
I will be the stay at home wifey i believe as not sure if allowed to work. we have no kids, hubby has two i uk that will visit. we were also asked to go to Hong kong but no direct flight from Manchester there so would have to rely on ex wife to take 3 hour journey to london to put kids on plane-that wont happen.
So Doha it is i think?? what do you guys think?? i have read a few threads and no there are pros and cons of living anywhere. it made me smile to read some of you met up for a few drinks at a hotel in August(count us in when we get out)
Anyway we are both 40,like a laugh and nice things(doesnt everyone) looking rent but dont know areas so if you can give as much advice as poss please dont worry about budget at this stage. i think location is key for me...can i walk out on my own? wear a vest top? drink vodka in my house and garden? sunbathe on the beach? are cars expensive to lease? where do expats live? are there many stay at home wives?
I know my initial questions are a bit lame but i know nothing about this country.
Is it the hell hole some people say it is????
Thanks for now:starsmile:

Doesn't really help us without a budget, you can rent from QR4,000 to QR60,000 i think location is key for me...can i walk out on my own? Yes wear a vest top? Yes, Just not in a mosque and everyone will stare at your tits. drink vodka in my house and garden? You can bathe in it at home sunbathe on the beach? Yes, £50 for a towel are cars expensive to lease? Depends what you want. QR1800 for a shitter, QR4000 for a 4x4 where do expats live? Houses or Apartments are there many stay at home wives? Oodles of them
I know my initial questions are a bit lame hmmmm but i know nothing about this country.

Hi Britexpat thanks for that..
My grammar is disgraceful hee hee
I think the rental budget will be around the 25000 mark, only need 2 bedrooms. do you suggest compound living? i hear this is the easiest way to mix with people as have all the facilities.
Which areas are nice. and more importantly, is Doha safe?
My Husband will be based at the medical centre cant remember the name of it i will find out now.
Bathing in vodka now theres a thought.
It looks a lovely place on you tube and weather is better than rainy Cheshire

Which areas are nice. and more importantly, is Doha safe? No, it's a hell hole, biker gangs, triads, Baluchis with knives. Wythenshaw is safer
My Husband will be based at the medical centre cant remember the name of it i will find out now. Sidra
Bathing in vodka now theres a thought. We like a bit of decadence and it sure beats camels milk

I tell people to avoid West Bay, Over priced and over hyped. For much less than 20k you can get a very nice 4 Bed Villa in a Compound. I recommend Al Waab as good road links and close to Villagio, so you can spend all his money lunching at Paul and Shopping in Gucci.

And Doha is very safe

Each to their own but I don't want a 4 bed villa on a compound, a 2 bed in a great area will do me just fine...

See you next Wednesday for beers!

We don't just do one beer.....

Cost of living is expensive, esp if you want western stuff, petrol is cheap, everything else is stoopid money, there is cost of living guide on the bored... ;)

Taxis aren't the easiest to get, they are cheap though, I use a licensed car and driver, he's really good, QAR40 an hour. During the week you can sit next to your pool, drink wine and champagne, get your hair/nails done, wax your bits, buy shoes.
Weekend is Fri/Sat, Fri is Brunch day, Sat is a write off cos of Fri brunch...

i like the idea of that. so when you say the towel and use facilities at hotels is 50 is that pounds?? thats scary. is it cheaper to have car and driver than lease a car do you think.
