from my experience yes. a cheque paid in during the morning is usually on the account the next morning. Damn site quicker than back home but then I guess there is a far bigger risk of bounced cheques back home.

In all probability it might be an account payee cheque. In any case since the company and she both have an account with HSBC, the cheque will be cleared as an 'In-house' cheque, meaning it doesn't have to be cleared through the Central Bank - so her account should be credited the same day. Keep following up with HSBC - in case they goof up...
