I can't talk for Meow, but I am certainly not touchy about any of it...I think it's a very interesting subject and I always enjoy discussing it...not agreeing about something is not the same as being touchy by the way...
Using capitals usually irks people a bit as it does come across like shouting...
And calling people Little Miss expat maybe isn't a good idea either...no matter how you feel about them.

It is worrying that the proportion of white trash moving to the UAE is increasing - the gulf was not like this 20 years ago - and there is a point to be made that the self-congratulatory Ahlan glitterati set are quite laughable when they imagine that a photo in a UAE glam-mag signifies celebrity status.
But, err, there's a little flaw in the argument here. If the thing that makes the UAE fake & awful is the flood of chavs and their little Brads and Angelinas arriving here.....
why the hell would you move back to a country that's full of them

I grew up in Bahrain in the 70's and 80's and although there were a few tossers back then, the vast majority had the same outlook on life and the same "feet firmly planted on the floor" attitude which was very enjoyable. Who knows what it'll be like in 5 years time? We can but hope.

it always amazes me in these discussion though that people automatically assume you didn't have the same lifestyle in the uk...you can, as Meow has said, have a fab life there, successful career, and every single benefit that you can have here...it's those who didn't have that to start with who always make the fuss i find...

Shakh, i agree - a lot of the UK is certainly filled with the little bleeders and i really do hope there isn't an explosion of them out here. Surely they wouldn't have the qualifications nor the intelligence to get work out here?

Nice to see that we found something to agree on!
I grew up in Kuwait in the 70's & 80's, and have the Gulf to thank for the education, privelages & opportunity that my dad's salary earned me - if that makes me a spoiled expat brat, then so be it. But I'm very happy to live in the UAE, and to contribute towards its society and economy.

Little bit of a broad and insulting statement, don't you think?

Re: advice needed!
So you're suggesting that all the people involved in this "discussion" didn't have a successful or enjoyable career / lifestyle back home? Including Meow and MH? Or are you simply making a wild stab at the ones about which you know nothing?

LOL, point taken, it sounds big-headed.... But actually one of the things that I do like about the UK education system is that the national curriculum covers the idea of "citizenship", "social responsibility" and being a "stakeholder" in society....

Guess at the end of the day there is a huge melting pot here with all types discussed here in the UAE.

I certainly wouldn't class expat brats as all those kids who live here or have lived within the expat way of life. An expat brat must have a particular way of behaving for him/her to qualify, i would suggest.
I agree with all you've said!!
