I work in finance/fund accounting, a charted accountant. There are pretty much no jobs in London, and I would love a change of scenery. What is so bad about Dubai at the moment? (other than people being laid off). My concern about the social life is I don't want to know only families with kids, it's a completely different lifestyle!

The issue is a lack of security/safety net if things go pear-shaped. If you have a job in London at the moment, then if you were made redundant you would presumably receive a termination package.

Typically, when a newbie arrives in Dubai, they have to pay 6 to 12 mths rent in advance, they usually buy a car, many take out credit cards and run them up in a joyful exuberance of the 7-star lifestyle dubai nightmare. That was dandy until the recession hit and left people with no job, no money to pay their debts and no choice but to make with the loan-skip.

I'm not saying that would necessarily happen to you, but think twice before giving up a secure position if you have one...

Dubai is better for singles but AD is by no means disastrous, just a bit more limited.

Well it's just not very secure at the moment. See the other threads on this board regarding the current situation. AD has all the money and is more stable.

AD does have more of a 'family atmosphere' than Dubai, IMO, but that doesn't mean there are no singles here. Seriously, as I said before, socially you would be fine in either place, so I'd go for where you can find the best job...good luck.
