Can you please shed some light on the psychometric testing portion? I'm fearful of the tests as I have never come across something of that nature. What's the best way to prepare and what sort of sample tests did you use to study? Any guidance will be much appreciated. Also, with regards to your interview, what types of questions did you encounter?

Hi all,

I'm new of this forum and I'm looking for some good advice.
My husband has been offered a job, manager position, in the financial industry in Abu Dhabi.
When the offer came we were quite negatively disappointed: the base salary+expats allowance barely beat the gross he's getting on a monthly basis (it's more or less the same as the sum of our net monthly salaries), then come a good housing allowance+schools paid.
We're actually not attracted by the tax free environment since we have a fairly good tax return where we live, therefore we would have expected a better offer from them.
Could you please tell me which is the normal market practice? Do employers normally throw a low offer and then they expect you to come back and negotiate?
He is a specialist in his area and apparently they were very keen on him
Thank you for illuminating me :0)

you pay no tax here obviously, plus work out what you spend on your house and utilities (water/electric) and then assume you will rent out your house if that is what you plan to do + quality of life (its sunny here today as it is every day)..... plus petrol for your car is peanuts then reevaluate ---- plus if you work too that changes things further....

I'm sure i've written all this on this thread before:

It's not a hardship posting and they spend a lot of time working out market rate and offering within that.

Get you husband to do a s/s and you will realise the difference, it's all in the supplementary areas. My husband's offer wasn't hugely different, but in real terms our spending power is at least 2.5. We don't pay any bills, have all education, medical and dental paid for. Even £800 of speech therapy a month. We have annual flights paid for and rented out investment property and our home.

It's been nearly 6 years and that extra disposable came at a great time in our lives, in terms of investment.

I work too, though only 2/3 days a week at the moment and have 3 smallish children. This was easy for me to do as we have nursery subsidised and live in help. I can spend time with my children, play tennis and still eat out 2/3 times a week, I can't quite believe how lucky I am. We don't want to be here for more than four more years, as you only have one life and I don't want our children thinking that this is it but it has been very beneficial to us.

thank you for your replies. Do you know if it's common practice to negotiate salaries here?
We refused the first offer and I'd like to know if it's the case to approach them again or if in your opinion is more' take it or leave'

We negotiated a little, but TBH the headhunter told us to just accept it.

Hi Al dente, would you mind telling me how to get the speech therapy paid by ADIA? Also, any good children speech therapist to recommend in abu dhabi? Many thanks!

You get an assessment and a referral done and then begin therapy if it is needed. We use Starz for special abilities. Then you just put in the invoices, as you do with anything else not covered by Daman.

Al dente, thanks for the information. So good to know ADIA will cover it. I saw some good reviews of Starz as well and will definitely give it a shot. Thanks!

It was 'take it or leave' and we left it... each choice has pros and cons, I think we made the right one
One never knows, maybe there'll be other opportunities in AD again :0)
Thank you anyway for your kind advice

Hi All,

Did anyone go through first round interviews with ADIA recently? Also, how long does it normally take before they come back to you whether invited to the next round or not?

Thank you.

Default psychometric testing for possible job

Hi just wondering if anyone has taken the psychometric test given by ADIA through PDI. Will be doing it soon and am trying to prepare. How about the business simulations portion of the test? Any ideas or advice will be greatly appreciated.
