Re: World Cup
fail
Ok, this is how I understand it. You get 1 point for picking the winner, 3 points for picking the exact score. If you think it will go to penalties and you predict such, you receive 2 points if you pick the winner, if you pick the winner in penalty kicks by the exact score then you get 5 points'? Phaq man, this has more rules than the EU government. Granted, if we didn't have rules we would all be living in trees and throwing poop at each other.
I vote for this. 1 point for predicting the correct result, ei, you guess USA 3 Ghana 0 but the actual score is USA 2 Ghana 1 regardless of how. 3 points for predicting the exact score, ei, USA 3 Ghana 0 in regular time and the actual score is USA 3 Ghana 0. 4 points for predicting the score after extra time, ei, USA 3 Ghana 2 EXT. 5 points for predicting the the USA will win in penalties, ei USA 3 Ghana 2 PENS( no matter how the penalty kicks work out.) If you are going to predict the actual penalty kick results, then why not award for predicting the minute in which the goals are scored. ei, England 1 (Rooney 87) Krauts 0.

Re: World Cup
Sorry I had to disappear off [into oblivion] last night..
So, we have one new rule for Penalties, otherwise, the rules for the prediction game are exactly the same as before. I'm going to use Kiwilass's predictions as an example:
Kiwilass Uruguay 2 KoreaRepublic 2
Kiwilass USA 1 Ghana 0
What Kiwilass has done above is perfectly acceptable. She's hoping that the Uruguay match will end in a draw and that the USA will win. She will get points but only if her predictions are correct at the end of normal play.
Now, if Kiwilass instead intends to predict that the Uruguay match will end with penalties, she needs to predict the actual penalty score (as well as put the word PENS on the end of that prediction). Example:
Kiwilass Uruguay 5 KoreaRepublic 4 PENS
Kiwilass USA 1 Ghana 0

Re: World Cup
The important bit was missed out, it should read "after the end of normal play", what I mean there is after 90 mins of regular time and the additional 30 mins of extra time (but prior to a penalty shoot out).
The complications really come from the football rules for the knockout round. So, instead of 90mins of play we now have four stages each match can go through:-
1. 90 mins of regular time.
2. 30 mins of extra time (if the above ended in a tie)
3. Penalty shoot-out (if the above ended in a tie)
4. Sudden-death penalty shoot-out (if the above ended in a tie)

Re: World Cup
It's actually straight forward.
Alot of points associated with penalties but alot of risk.
What we need to do is work out how many games in the last two World Cup's actually went to penalties???? I think it is safer to just predict normal time results in the long run.
