I'm sure they'll kiss and make up soon enough.

Has Henry been coaching the Brazilian forwards in his spare time?

Anyone else have any comments or suggestions about this (I already put the functions into a spreadsheet when I was thinking about it the other night and it's easy enough to modify to whatever preference we pick)?

The following is doable, if a little complicated at first glance:
  • Correct Winning Result (90 mins OR AET): 1 Point
  • Correct Winning Score (90 mins OR AET): 3 Points
  • Predict an AET draw: 1 Point for predicting AET draw or 3 Points for exact score
  • Predict a penalty win: 2 points for correct result, 5 Points for correct Penalty score

So predictions would be entered in exactly the same form as before, however an optional "PENS" signifier can be tagged on the end of each prediction (to indicate the predicted score is the penalty score.)

How does that sound?

Better late than never!

This game has really brightened up my working day. People see me at my desk cursing when I know my predicted result is no longer possible.

That sounds fine to me GH. I may not enter though because my interenet access after next Tuesday will be intermittent.

I ripped off the rules for the game from a long running Graunaid Football All Talk thread for EPL predictions.

I had the honour of winning that competition a few years ago, 2003 perhaps.

If you (or someone else) could post the overtime/extratime rules just to make sure everyone (me) understands how a winner is determined. To my knowledge the extratime is not sudden death but at the same time there are "golden goals" and I could look it up but the rules posted on the thread would be a nice touch.

I could make everyone of you Gridiron fans if you enjoy friendly wagers and prediction games.

"Golden goals" are the same thing as sudden death and are not used at this WC (someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

If the match is a draw after normal time, the teams play 2 additional 15 minute halves. If there's still (or again) a draw, it goes to penalties.

5 players from each team take the spot-kicks (or if a winner is already established after fewer than 5, that's it). If it's still tied after 5 penalties each, additional players (not the same 5) take alternate pots until someone misses.

so if 1 team is ahead after the first 15 minute half, do they play the 2nd half or only if they are tied?

They play both halves regardless.

What Alan said. The other system (if you're ahead after 15 minutes of ET you win) has also been used in some competitions. It's known as the "silver goal".
