I'll knock you up in the morning
Plus, it isn't always the word(s) used, but the way they are pronounced.

That black sauce Lea and Perrins makes that you put in a Caesar drink as most people can't even pronounce it correctly.

Of all the above/foregoing words, "rubber" is that one that always causes a double-take to non-Canadians. From time to time I find myself reminiscing about life in Toronto (I was married there in January 1967; so was my wife, as it happens...), and among the native eccentricities I relate is the custom of putting one's rubbers on before going outside in the snow. I expect that most readers of this thread have encountered the usual shock reaction - namely, "You what, John???"

It's a good old sauce, good in beans too. Soy sauce is another, but far less complicated to spell. I tell kids it's the black stuff they squeeze out of grasshopper heads.

I had to do the bollocks vs dog's bollocks explanation the other weekend.
I have also introduced her to the wonder of 'cockwomble'.
She did also wonder why I was laughing at someone's name on a list, it was "John Thomas". Yes, I'm childish, and I explained the joke, which she duly notified the person about, to some hilarity!
