The Winter's Cricket - Ashes Thread

Ruined my naffing Christmas season this has.
Should never have made Cook captain, he's too posh and soft. Swan, Bell and Prior should retire.

England need to win the toss and bat first in the next test. We are clearly incapable of chasing.
I don't know what else to add other than this is not the strongest Australian team there has ever been.

Seems a bit unfair make Stokes stand out in that heat and sunshine.

I grew up loving Test cricket but in the modern era it has become a fallacy.
If you win the toss and bat first you increase your chances of winning the test significantly.
It kind of irks me that this stat is conveniently ignored by pundits and officials a like.
England have not been good this Ashes but if you study the Ashes over the last few years you will see that few tests are won by the chasing side.
They need have a standard to to preserve batting wickets or something.
Rant over.
Hopefully England wrap up the Aussies for less than 400 and go and put 400 on themselves- then at least we can get a draw and keep it alive for one more test.

The whole test series has been a disappointment with a lack of focus and preparation from England. Just shoddy work and the ECB should be giving the Barmy Army some of their money back.

I agree with the toss thing. They should have a toss at the first game then just alternate the rest of the matches.

I agree up to a point. I will point out that occasionally, captains are happy to lose the toss, esp in England on an overcast morning that promises to clear up pretty quickly.
In India, you'd take batting first every time, so in a 3 or 5 match series, if we alternate, one side still has the advantage.
Although losing the toss 3 times in a row irks me, it is not the reason we are doing so badly. That's a different story.
But Cook is a poor tosser
