Why is my name so difficult for the Canadians?

Probably because it's an uncommon name in Canada. Nobody is expecting to hear the name "Gaynor", so they mentally substitute the nearest equivalent. My wife's name has a common pronunciation, but is an unusual spelling variant, so she has related problems at times.

i had the same problem with Kae - it was either keye 'as in eye' ! 'gay' or kate
then i was informed they liked my accent and had to get one !!!
has anyone heard a strong boltonian accent ???

Went to Canadian Wholesale tonight, at the checkout the girl said "Home or Business?" I replied "Home", she then looked at me like this
and said "sorry?", I said "H O M E", she then said "oh" and carried on....
and said "sorry?", I said "H O M E", she then said "oh" and carried on....

The best thing ive heard here, one english guy i know said someone butted into his conversation in an elevator and said he sounded like the queen!
