A friend of mine sent me a similar thing when we first moved to Calgary, about a gun siege in the street next to the one we used to live in, in our old sleepy town it was the biggest thing to happen there in........ well forever, until the football club burned down . Now we live in Calgary and folk are being shot at, on a regular basis (don't want to jinx things as its been fairly quiet recently), Stuff like this happens all the time but it only matters when someone points it out or reports it. When it involves a school and kids though it makes you wonder what else is going on?

For you iaink, I like Canada because it has the most amazing views and my kids are really happy here, oh and I can learn to do new things all the time! like fall down whilst trying to ski

I think as it involved somewhere I had grown up then it was a little too close for what would have been comfort

Also what makes "kids" 16 & 17 even have the knowledge to make a bomb or come up with the idea and why

It also reaffirmed our decision to live in Canada too - I know that larger cities have gun crime etc as other posters have said but I feel incredibly safe here in Lethbridge and as a mom that is what I strive for for my kids

I went to school with a Doctors son who knew how to make all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff, Including bombs, he would also take apart fireworks and use the stuff from inside to blow things up, he could do it so he did do it! (He never hurt anybody though)
You can make a bomb from sugar and fertilizer and something else if I remember rightly, the recipe will be on the internet.

It wont taste nice

My point was really, that kids have the tools to find anything at their finger tips, we shouldn't be so suprised when they do. Their actions when they have that information, are a different matter entirely

Are you suggesting censorship?

Such a small view of the world,
I made my first bomb and tested it on the “local tip” when I was about fourteen, bombs are really really simple to make, my first rocket propelled plane at fifteen…….
If your kids are paying attention in chemistry that have the knowledge at around 13 to 14 but the knowledge to find the sources of ingredients and coming up with a convincing reason why you need weed killer comes a little later
The darwin effect will remove the real idiots earlier

Adults should be censoring what their children are looking at anyway, for the sake of their child, and also the parent who doesn't want to be arrested because their child has downloaded a ton of porn, or the kid kidnapped by an internet pervert. However that's an ideal world and not everyone has the resources to prevent a computer savvy kid downloading what they want too, Maybe some form of censorship is needed, but there will always be a way around that, however it may be enough to stop a kid with an 'idea' doing something daft.

Interesting enough.

I agree that there should be a level of parental supervision regarding the internet as there are some creeps, but censorship of scientific information is what i am getting at?
