Re: Who's going where at Christmas?
Xmas in Montreal.
New year will be either here, Quebec City or, if Expedia comes up with the goodies, somewhere warm. Prices are coming down. Incidentally, Quebec seems to be getting civilised. After eight years of being here, Marmite is starting to appear in the shops. I was amazed to find it it Walmart last weekend. This weekend, it appeared in IGA. I really should tell these people they'd sell more of it if they put it with the peanut butter. |

Re: Who's going where at Christmas?
Well according to my work schedule I will be reporting at 8.30 pm on Christmas Day evening for a set of 4 x midnight shifts. What sort of traveller wants to enter Canada on that day:lol:
Ah the joys of being a shift worker and providing a service to you the public. |

Maybe you should all have a few days off and just leave the gate open, what harm will it do?

None whatsoever as no person would ever enter Canada and bring in stuff they shouldnt etc etc. Perhaps we should put out a collection box for those who would leave their $150 work permit fee sort of like an honour system.
Maybe duty free shop could take any payments |

Why should their staff have to work and not enjoy Christmas? Nope Im sure the honour system would work just fine. For those over on personal exemptions we could introduce a flat payment say $5 for every bottle of wine over, $10 for a bottle of spirits or case of beer and $20 for every carton of cigarettes. You wouldnt even need any security around the overflowing cash boxes as nobody would think of ripping those off.

Now you are just being silly, you well know that without a duty free shop then the borders of this fine country would be reduced to pure chaos.
I actually feel sorry for those who forgot to buy it then ask me where can they buy their Duty Free on arrival and I tell them that they need to exit the Customs area and go to the Duty Free store upstairs. Of course I neglect to inform them that they need to clear security and present a boarding pass for a flight exiting Canada to purchase their Duty Free.:sneaky: |

Rumour has it that Duty Free shops will be allowed to open up a store in the Customs areas at Canadian airports for those poor unfortunate travellers who forgot to buy their smokes and booze at a Duty Free store at their airport of departure or did not leave enough time at a connecting airport.

What is so wrong with idea? I can think of several airports that have had inbound duty-free shops for years. Why put all that extra weight and flammable liquid on a plane?

Same with cigarettes. So now the person travelling back from the UK has forgot to buy his favourite bottle of Scotch Whiskey and a carton of Embassy cigarettes. Chances are his selection at the inbound store will be limited probably only to Canadian brands thus making the traveller unhappy and moaning whereas if they had remembered to buy it before ie on departure then they wouldnt probably be moaning as much as chances are they would have found their favourite brand. Plus dont forget we are in Canada and we are 10 years or more behind everybody else  |
