Re: What food does everyone miss?
there's not a bad place in Calgary (I think somewhere on the south side) that does donairs.
It's not like a drunken nightclub kebab, but its pretty dam nice  Hmmm aside from that - indian take away, mushy peas in a styrofoam pot from the chippy, and cornish pasties. ooooh cornish pasties - I'm gonna make some tomorrow  |
Re: What food does everyone miss?
Fish & Chips, pork pies, decent sausages, cured meat from italy (not italian style from Mississagua), decent cheese that doesn't make you shudder at the cost, double cream, pork sausage rolls, scotch eggs, certain cakes and puddings - selkirk bannock and clouttie dumpling etc.
On the bright side absence has forced us to make some things ourselves that we never used to before - yorkshire puddings, brioche, bakewell tart, marzipan. |

Not had a decent Indian since we came here. I hate curry when you can taste the powder - don't think they've heard of spices. Proper popadoms - Tyrone had some on Coronation Street the other night, proper jealous I was :(
India kitchen is hands down the best, i'd even go as far as anyting i had in the uk, although the restaurant it self is very run down and a bit off-putting. I also found it a bit spendy...but excellent food...the other indian in white rock (forget the name) is crap. Blandest rubby i ever had. |

We had a decent meal in an Indian restaurant on the east side of 152nd just north of the King George Hwy. However, head up Scott Road for some of the best. Baba Sweets have a lunchtime curry, rice and nan for less than $10. Decor is sh*t but proper tasty. |
Re: What food does everyone miss?
We were recommended an Indian place down Fraser between E27th and E28th last Friday. Nooru Mahal i think it was called. T'is our best one yet and very well priced.
They have Gran in the kitchen doing the cooking and it was bloody tasty. It's a shabby place if you're eating in but they do takeout although it takes time for the food to be ready. The place was full of Indian families. Will definitely go again  |

there are plenty of decent indians around here. Popadoms included. try Mahek in south surrey or Inida Kitchen in White Rock. I especially recommend the lamb vindaloo at Mahek. In vancouver there is india oven in kits or ' vades the indian restaurant in north van, although they had slipped since they first opened. The brits at the eagle where i used to drink, agreed that it was, "...a blinding rubby.." Palki on central lonsdale was also half decent.

I also lived in Bournemouth, The New Forest and Southampton hence finding Moncton dull. Thinking about it I would say Stoke has more going for it than Moncton!! |

The India Bistro does a decent ruby but don't get cocky and ask them to make it a as hot as they like. The chef must have took as a challenge. :( In general I find the Indian's over a bit pricey and the portions a bit small. HID went to Mahek's a few weeks ago with some colleagues, unfortunately she's a bit too Canadian to give a decent assessment so we'll have to try it this week.
