I was thinking more in terms of Man U tempting the likes of the Villas from Spain, or Seth Johnston etc...

There's also that french midfielder/forward, whatsisname, Ribery?
I'd like to see them bid 40-60 million for Gerard though, just to make the statement that they can (and the drama it will cause)

MONTREAL–Two rival bids for the Montreal Canadiens emerged from business heavyweights yesterday – one from three Molson brothers and the other from a consortium spearheaded by Quebecor Media.

The cynic in me says that those two have a gentleman's agreement to let Ronny go to Real as long as Real dont bid up the cost of Ribery to Man U. I should really get to grips with my cynicism shouldn't I

That's what I meant, Man U will likely go for Ribery.
But really, the more I think about it, it would be so typical of Ferguson to try to unsettle Liverpool with a bid for Gerrard. It's just the sort of tactic that I'd expect from him. Gerrard may say no but Rooney is there, he was easily persuaded and Gerrard must be pretty desperate to win more silverware before he retires..

I dont think Liverpool were ever in the financial running for him...he's another that will go for over £50M I suspect, either to Real or Man U?

It was forty years ago today.....
"Wednesday June 11th 1969, and a balmy night in the Hungarian capital Budapest ended with Bobby Moncur taking possession of the Inter Cities Fairs Cup trophy - our last bona fide cup victory anywhere.
Manager Joe Harvey celebrated his birthday in the Megyeri uti Stadion as Iam McFaul, David Craig, Frank Clark, Tommy Gibb, Ollie Burton, Bobby Moncur, Jimmy Scott, Pop Robson, Wyn Davies, Benny Arentoft, Jackie Sinclair and substitute Alan Foggon completed a 6-2 aggregate victory over Ujpest Dozsa."
... seems like yesterday. <weeps>

Thanks. I was at the home leg which we won 3-0 and back then there was no TV coverage of the away leg in Budapest: I sat cross legged on the floor of my parents house straining to hear the crackly commentary on a short wave radio broadcast...
We went down 0-2 and I knew we'd blow it but amazingly captain Bobby Moncur scored and Ujpest were completely gutted. It ended (as noted above) 6-2 on aggregate.
Happy daze.

2009/2010 EPL fixtures to be released at 10am UK/5am EST on Weds 17th June.
The Championship fixtures are releaed the same day, so I'd guess so would all of the other English leagues.

Owen brochure sent to clubs - Striker hoping to be going places with 34-page document
Michael Owen is bidding to secure a Premier League contract after his management company compiled a brochure on the striker.
I don't see a place for him at Arsenal. We already have an injury-prone striker in Van Persie, who's still a much better player than Owen!

The 2009-2010 Premier League fixtures were released today. So were the Championship ones but I can only find them for selected dates.
Newcastle's first fixture is at The Hawthorns, against also-relegated West Brom whose manager resigned yesterday.
