What with the John Terry racism verdict due today, I'm trying to familiarise myself with the allegations.
Terry allegedly said to Ferdinand "... you f***ing black c****, f***ing knobhead".
Terry's defence is that he actually said "I never called you a f***ing black c****, f***ing knobhead".
Unfortunately, just at the crucial moment, Ashley Cole's head got in the way of the camera, so we might never know the truth.
F***ing knobhead.

Not that I wish to defend the odious thug that is John Terry in any way, but I find it disturbing that Anton Ferdinand can freely admit to lobbing personal insults at Terry - personal insults deliberately chosen to offend and humiliate someone - yet it is Terry who found himself in court for calling someone who (i) black and (ii) a ******, a black ******.

Perhaps the court took into account the lack of denial from Ferdinand that he's a "c***" and a "f***ing knobhead"

And what if he called him just "white ******", would that have been treated more leniently? Or, is it more racist to ignore key elements of racism in racist remarks?

There is definitely a greater issue here about how players are conducting themselves on the pitch and whilst racism seems to be under the microscope they should be looking to make a lesser example out of Anton Ferdinand as well.

The handling of the recent events (Suarez, Ferdinand (the tweet story from this weekend) and Terry) just seem so incredibly absurd to me in terms of the inconsistencies in handling and absolute positioning of their "crime".
Sure, bad conduct witnessed from high profile players will influence the minds of those who are susceptible - which appears to be the driving factor in assessing severity of the possible consequences. But I contrast the alleged racist remarks to Mr. Barton's attempts at ABH where he is apparently protected from criminal law by the FA.
Yet the FA does not offer the same protection to those who might have appeared to have uttered a racist term in the "heat of the moment" and, for those with the allegations made against them, typically they're either obviously not racists or it's likely impossible to prove that they are.
So a whole pile of tax payers money is wasted when really, all they had to do was give the clubs involved a big fine to say "this is not acceptable from any of your players". And maybe send the players off to anger management for a while. Oh, and lock up Barton for a couple of years.
Seriously, the media circus and criminal courts dealing with a crime that has a maximum fine of 25 hundred quid, no jail term, when the person earns a reported 150k per week is just pathetic; complete waste of time, especially when there's insufficient evidence and it was nothing more than an extremely inappropriate outburst that the FA has already proved it can handle (i.e. Suarez).
