He has talent- but will his off field antics surpass his on field talent over time?

I was explaining to a "cradle" recently why I found it hard to get excited about young english players after he continued to ram some kid at Arsenal down my throat- I told him to look up the following:

Stan Collymore
Francis Jeffers
Danny Cadamatri
Darren Huckerby
Lee Sharpe
Robbie Fowler
Kieron Dyer

I won't add any of the Tottenham players that failed to sizzle over the years.

I honestly think they will. After the Toon, Liverpool will feel like Bournemouth.

M1 South to the M62, turn right and keep going to the end. If he wants to go further, he'll be swimming in the Mersey.

I wonder if he'll kiss the new badge on his shirt if he scores?

I think he can kiss any respect Liverpool fans had left for him goodbye if that article is accurate!

Oh yeah, Liverpool fans have a lot of respect? They're the worst in the world, even worse than you gooners and that's saying something. Disgusting display.

Of your list, Robbie Fowler had talent and was able to see through the smoke and mirrors of Sven...the rest are pretty forgettable. Collymore is on Talk Sport as a pundit and he basically talks about the good old days etc....yawn.

In terms of Spurs players who have failed to shine, I'd suggest Woodgate, Huddlestone, Carrick etc.

All 3 of those are still playing top flight football and commanding big wages (Woodgate played at Real Madrid and Carrick still at United) but I could easily reel of others....

Woodgate and King are both players whom would have won 50 caps for England if they weren't watching TV in the treatment room.....

I'm talking young english players that were supposed to dominate their positions for 10 years who were pretty much finished in the top flight by 25 years old......

I think Robbie Fowler could claim to have had a half decent career.

Fair enough. He was perhaps a poor choice for my list.

Phenomenal scoring record at Liverpool and still high on Premier League goal scoring charts but could've been one of the all time greats and won far more than 26 England caps.

But the latter years of his career particular after the coke snorting celebration tainted him.

Briefly - wasn't he injured for most of his first season there then scored an own goal and got sent off on his debut?

JW has had no luck with injuries during his career. He had 18 starts in 2 seasons at Newcastle before Real Madrid: 9 starts in 2 seasons there.

Shit happens.

Some things in life are bad

They can really make you mad

Other things just make you swear and curse.

When you're chewing on life's gristle

Don't grumble, give a whistle
and be glad that your club didn't waste 35million ****ing squid on a delinquent Geordie.

Yes- but also scored a memorable goal for Spurs in a cup final against Chelsea and during his time playing with "the Galacticos" won plaudits for being "the best defender in the world".

All his injuries never stopped top clubs signing him due to his performances and he hasn't tumbled down the leagues like a Francis Jeffers- both of a similar age.

There are players whose careers suffer through injury and there are players who for what ever reason think their early promise is enough and don't want to do the work on and off the pitch through out their careers- unfortunately for England we produce a lot of them which is my point going back to Andy Carroll and England's poor performances at the World Cup.
