For proper sit down restaurants, you will find the servers have to give a percentage of their sales to kitchen/bar staff. Some places the tips are pooled and shared every shift.

Your fast food/restaurant staff are unlikely to get a tea break and in some cases meal break during their shift, especially if its busy. You can forget any medical or pension benefits, even for managers where I work. The managers where I work are contracted at 60 hours per week $19, no benefits, no pensions, both have second jobs, one has 3. I hove no idea when she sleeps.
That's good to know. Do most customers tip at your FF place? What's the usual percentage.
Why are the people horrid, are they rude/aggressive? It must be tough.

The tips we get are anything from $1 to $10 ((10 is rare for in restaurant dining) and from 5% to 20% again 20% is rare. We get the daily diners, take out or dine in that always tip and those that never and those that sometimes.

We used to see the amounts that the skip drivers get for their tips, we've seen $30 tips for the driver. Skip adjusted their things so we just get the order. Once in a blue moon we'll get a Skip tip.

As for the horridness, it's the same in any retail environment. People don't listen, get annoyed if you don't hear them. Talk on their phones while giving an order. Walk away before you are finished with them. And it's worse for my co workers who do not have English as a first language. The way some of the customers speak to the Filipinas/Mexican co workers compared to me is awful.

Sometimes I think my SD thinks the favourite part of her job is when a couple of customers are bitching away about something store related in French and then she bids them a good day. in French, her first language.

I don't why people are rude to service staff. Have never understood that.
