If you're in need of fish 'n' chips and you're in NS, go to Murphy's in Pictou.

If you like chicken (and who doesn't) then try Swiss Chalet.
It's cheap and cheerfull, really good food. Varied menu so something for everyone and quite a good kids menu. OH always does his Delboy impression when we go, "c'mon darlin' get your coat on, we're goin' a Swiss Chalet"

The Keg or Tony Romas for prime rib mmm.

So far our favourites for steak in Calgary are La Ranche (Fish Creek Park), Carvers at the airport Sheraton and Bear's Den (Bearspaw Road, off the 1A as you head towards Cochrane). All VERY pricey by Canadian standards but had decently cooked vegetables.

Also bear in mind that - compared to London, Paris etc. - there just aren't any spectacular restaurants in Calgary (IMO)...

And just in case that sounds ever so snobbish.... our family is devastated to find there are no Nando's, Wagamama's or Balti curryhouse franchises in Calgary but if any budding restaurateurs fancy finding out how to export the franchise, we'll be good customers.

According to that august publication, Air Canada's En route magazine, the best new restaurant in Canada is Atlantica in Newfoundland. http://www.enroutemagazine.com/e/november07/best_b.html Not eaten their yet as the prices mean that it'll be a special treat!

Typical of Air Canada, that. They publish the august edition in November.

Edit: Oh dear, I've just checked my ticket and I'm flying AC to Yurop tonight. I didn't mean to be rude, honest.

Calgary

The Ranche in Fish Creek Park - location, location, location
and Escoba's on 8th Ave - Italian with a huge wine selection

For steaks - the Keg (who cares about the veg, it's steak I'm after!!!)

Cheers

Dobbie
