How do you like living in Auckland? Love Auckland, it's a really nice place to live. I'll really miss it. I just hope I can make the transition without getting too homesick. I thought Vancouver was quite similar to Auckland, so hopefully I can do it. But yeah, really love living in Auckland. How about you? Are you in Vancouver? How are you liking it over there? |

I went back to the UK in 05/6, I was SO homesick after 9years living in NZ. So did a recce and absolutely hated it. Decided I didn't want to go back and that really NZ had become home without me realising it and started appreciating how great it is down here (NZ is really my home, I was born here but my Dad's is English and I grew up in England so always associated "home" as England and not NZ because I left here when I was 6months and was raised in Australia and then England). So if you head back home where are you going back to? If you have family down here might NZ be an option? How do your family down here like it (or not)? |

I haven't been to Toronto, only BC and Alberta. I really like Vancouver though and think it's the best "inbetween" Auckland and Canada place for me.

My family have been in NZ since the late 1950's (well my aunt and uncle) 3 kids born in UK (left when they ranged from 4 to newborn) and twins born in NZ, they have all travelled worldwide after Uni and have all settled happily back in Auckland area. They would never choose to live anywhere else. I really liked it there, similar to the UK in some ways. I felt it was too remote, for me, to live there forever, so didn't make it an option for us. We will visit again one day though once we are settled back in UK and our finances are back on track. |
Re: Teatime Choices
If you two want to have a jolly chit chat then fine, but this thread is a serious discussion about late afternoon or evening culinary events. :)

So many Kiwis are loyal to NZ and choose to live here over anywhere else. They're well traveled too so know what it's like in other places but prefer it here. I do understand why, it really is a great place. But yeah, I understand what you mean, it does feel a little remote for me too. After I didn't want to return to the UK I looked at Canada because it seems like a good mid-way point, lol, sort of halfway between here and the UK, but I'd always wanted to check it out too. But who knows, I may be back to NZ in the long run, I can't ever imagine living back in the UK, I feel like my time there is done and over, there isn't really anything pulling me back there, not even friends and family (that sounds awful, haha:rofl:) |

Yeah, what Doll said. It's garlicky mayonaise.
I like red sauce and vinegar too... oh heck, now I'm jumping into my car and driving down to Mission Bay for those dang Belgian chips, |

HAHA! Got my "sides" all sorted. :p Here's me hijacking again with my culinary adventure of today. So earlier I went to the mall and ate a curry, well, only 2 mouthfuls and a bite of naan bread and I was full. Then went for a coffee and apple slice and could only eat half.:o It's too hot down here at the moment to eat properly. Then tonight went to a restaurant but the menu was crud so just ordered off the snack menu and had breads and dips with truffle butter and balsamic olive oil and spicy calamari with spinach salad and a tamarind chili sauce and a glass of bubbly. Very nice indeed. |
Re: Teatime Choices
FYI. If you've consumed a large plate of extra spicy chicken wings make sure you wash your hands very throughly before you have a piss.

Maybe tonight for dinner you should have "floppy joes" rather than the sloppy kind:sneaky: |

Re: Teatime Choices
Home made cauliflower cheese with smoked bacon, plus a bit of garlic bread to mop up the sauce.
Lovely:) Aioli - posh word for mayonnaise with a LOT of garlic. Very yummy indeed to dip chips into if you are not fond of tomato sauce on them.:) |
Re: Teatime Choices
Sesame beef with broccoli and orange slices on a bed of jasmine rice:thumbup: (homemade of course not frozen;))

Re: Teatime Choices
vegemite sandwiches with crisps inside
(that's kiwi, but the Brit equivilent would be marmite sandwiches with cheese and onion crisps squashed inside) yum |

Mmmmmmm I LOVE crisp sarnies!
Cheese, marmite and salt and vinegar crisps were my favorite. Haven't had one in ages though! Tonight we are having homemade pumpkin and ricotta gnocchi with a butter and sage sauce. |

Never had a go at making pasta or gnocchi but if I was going to, that would be my choice. I have used my own home-grown sage to make the butter for shop made pasta before, so maybe I could do the rest! I ate crisp sandwiches sometimes when I was apart from my OH during our FSW 2 process. Very comforting.:) Has to be thick sliced white bread, real butter and cheese and onion or ready salted crisps for me. |
Re: Teatime Choices
You've got to love Canada, having steak in the middle of the week, how posh is that? Having it with chips and peas.

Re: Teatime Choices
Maple mustard marinated pork steaks for me, with baked potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower.
I have also made some fresh lemon curd this afternoon, so might have a slice of bread with that on after with a cup of tea:thumbsup: |

Instant advancement through the social structure to "posh" - as long as you are pairing that with Aioli and not red sauce, of course:p.

Is it AAA grade steak? Not that I know what that means - I have had some awful steak here that is supposedly AAA and some very nice stuff that isn't graded at all:confused:. I am still looking for steak out here as tender and flavoursome as I used to get from my friend who had a farm in the Derbyshire hills. I never really went for steak until I had sirloin from there. |

I just ate crisp sarnies for tea
