None of the above, they look at my feeble facial hair and thick glasses and ask me to connect their garage door opener to their telephone; so they could open the door while on safari, if they went on safari.

One always tries to land on the button. Not putting it down hard is always best, takes a load off the undercarriage.

I'm usually curious about other people's jobs - how they came to choose that profession, did they just "fall into it", did they train specifically for it, do they love their job, what else do they wish they could do....

I'm lucky that I've usually really enjoyed 80%+ of each job I've had. Maybe every job has a 20% crap rating?

And really, many jobs are just that - a job. They do not fully represent the person.

I like many people fell into my job, I am a draughtsman, I used to enjoy my job, but not anymore, its become way too computer driven....whcih in some ways is good in that a larger number of drawings can be prouduced, but I find my job is less about engineering techinical ability nowadays and more about software technical ability....and computers..... as useful as they can be, intensly annoy me.....as what worked great the one day...and for the last year has suddenly stopped working, for no reason at all!! ......or you will lose a whole days work becuase the computer decided it wanted to throw a hissy fit! and shut itself down. Grrrrr!!!

If i had my chance again, i think i would do what i origianlly wanted to so when i left school, domestic electtician or a carpenter. Simple and always in demand....and no annoying computers!!!

Im "A Engineer". In a small operation I dont really get to specialise in any one area.

I do not have a pocket protector or glasses, so those stereotypes at least dont apply.

Obviously Doctors get a certain amount of respect, but I lived with a bunch of medical students back in the day, so I know what they are really like.

Living where I do one job that jumps out at me as demanding universal respect is Canadian Forces SARTech. Those folks are simply amazing.

You shouldn't have a problem finding one of those around here.

Hi, that's me. Is that everyone now?

I think I have a death wish when it comes to choosing my occupations, my last one was Nuclear Safety Analyst, which no one liked either. It was fine when I started in the industry in March 1986, but after Chernobyl in April 1986 (no it wasn't my fault) all hell broke loose.

On the Realtor front, during my time I have met some great, dedicated individuals who really put themselves out for their clients and I have met some complete assholes.

Anyone choosing to do a job that has a risk of physical danger has me impressed, until I realize that their attitude to risk is different to mine. But even so, firefighter?

I fell into all my jobs by chance or just took them because I needed an income and it was the first offered.

My 2 longest tenure industries was the airline which I fell into out of high school, needed a full-time job and my high school job was part-time and inconsistent on hours depending on season (summer was 40 hours a week, winter could go 2-3 months without a shift.) and saw an ad for an airline, applied, was hired, and spent 5 years there. Little did I know at the time it was the lowest paid, and worst employee relations airline in the US at the time, but co-workers were cool and fun to work with, job was entertaining, and more hours available then you could ever want. (i'd routinely work 60 hours a week.) but the pay sucked, 6.90/hr (1998) to 8.83 (2003) but the benefits were good, medical was 100% premium free, no co-payments, free unlimited space available flying, so those made up for the low pay somewhat.

I did a variety of jobs there, ramp, operations, weight/balance & Load Plan, and customer service with a brief time in baggage service. (lost luggage) I did every job except station manager the airline offered at the airport level.

Hotels, I only do night audit. Could not pay me enough to work front desk during the day. I just fell into hotel work as well, needed a job after the airline, and a hotel was the first to offer one. They are okay places to work, and if you can get into a higher rate property easier as well, budget and mid-range ones are a pain to work in, never enough staff.

I got a lot of flack when I worked for a municipality. Both in & out of the office.

Actually, when I think about it, I've either been looked down on for for many of my jobs (secretary, receptionist, PR person, EFL/ESL teacher) or lambasted (municipal/NGO gigs).

OTOH, I was pretty much universally "loved" as a bartender ...

I used to cringe when people asked what I did when I was a town planner. A barrage of comments about badly-designed one way systems and crap roads usually followed, but planners don't do the bl**dy roads, that's them engineering type folk! I ended up saying I worked for the council, but that was almost just as bad in their eyes!

I was an admin assistant when we first moved over here and in my office at least, I might as well have said I was a bit of poop on someone's shoe. I have now recently reached the dizzy heights of 'Creative Services Specialist' which could cover anything really and it pretty much does, but hey it sounds much more sexy than town planner - they have such wonderful job titles in municipal government nowadays!

I don't think any job title would cause me to have a strong reaction, except for clinic receptionist. You have to be a special individual with unique qualities for such a role. Just had a run in with one this evening who was quoting policy at me and made me rebook an appointment because they had booked me in at the wrong time - gah

I have the utmost respect for anyone who works as a cop, fireperson, ems, nurse, doctor, rescue, etc.
