Gee thanks Dad.

Thank God I flunked that OU course in Quantum Mechanics then.....or whatever?

Unbelievable seven straight hours of heavy snow followed by two more of moderate snow.

That has to be some sort of record.

Possibly. My neighbour, who is pushing 60, told me he has never seen snow like that before Christmas. Souvette has never seen snow like that, and she's from Montreal.

The plough came during the night, leaving a wall at the end of the driveway that was five feet across and waist-high. It took me an hour to make a hole big enough for her to get the car out.

The Cote d'Azur Cavalry must have been watching the seconds tick away because it was pretty obvious when 6am came around.

My BIL near Quebec City spent most of yesterday on his roof, removing three feet of snow.

Well it's stopped in Toronto. If this is the worst storm that Toronto normally gets, I think we'll be perfectly fine here.

Currently blizzard-like conditions here in St John's. Very very windy and visibility was zero in places during the drive in to work. We've only had about 10cm of snow & it's transitioning now to ice pellets and eventually rain. Which will make the clear up jolly nice. Not!

After all that 'heavy' snow Ottawa airport is reporting 37 cm of snow, Gatineau Airport 32 cm, but Cornwall and Embrun got 50 cm of snow.

I think you've just experienced as bad as it gets in TO.

We had about 15 inches here yesterday (felt like more; at least it does this morning). There were white-out conditions for much of the day.

However, life is back to normal today. Souvette's drive to work was quicker than usual, I just saw a school bus and the garbage collector came at 6.30am.

Canadians may make lousy beer but they know how to handle snow.

Impressive, if somewhat nerdy, factoid.

The city of Montreal has 420 sidewalk ploughs, 200 spreading/ploughing trucks, 500 graders and 240 f**k-off blowers? That's not including hundreds of landscape gardeners.

For all that equipment, 'old' Montreal is not geared to major storms. I was in Montreal on December 6 and 'old' Montreal was still a mess with cars blocked in, snow clogged streets etc. Truly a case of an area built before cars were considered.

Nah, why go for half measures when you could all the way and build big box retail and strip malls.

Ottawa has had 148 cm of snow so far this winter. Last winter we only got 150 cm in the entire winter. We also have 75 cm on the ground today.

I guess we probably have two feet in the fields, it'll take serious digging before we can open the gate properly. Pictures on blog but it's hard to convey relative depth of snow, perhaps I'll put the yardstick in and take a picture.

That yardstick could be you........................

Well I was sort of disappointed in the storm, it didnt seem storm like to me bt then we are sheltered in the city. We didnt even have heavy snow. altogether around 30cm I suppose. MOH has gone to work and shovelled where the plow has been and behind his car, I will go and do the rest of it soon
