Two points of view (just presenting each side I'm sure Mandy knows which side I fall on)

1) You chose to live in the sticks so why does it give you the right to a) break the law b) do something which can be considered dangerous to yourself and others.

2) A very sensible thing to do both on the part of the OH and yourself. and it is nobody elses business.

Fair comment, one other thing I would add would be to make sure I knew how to use the gun

I merely wanted to point out that it is both extremely dangerous & illegal to keep a loaded gun in your house!
I have a loaded gun in the house. What did Tony Soprano say when the car saleswoman asked him that about the one in his sock?

"There's nothing more useless than a unloaded gun" or words that effect.

to reply to both

1) I choose to live in the sticks but unfortunately do not choose which yahoos decide to come and break in at 2am actually I didn't know it was illegal (so the gun is ahem not loaded until I need it ) as I said above wouldn't have a clue how to use it (though I have been shown) so it could be incredibly dangerous to anyone within a 2 mile radius but thats a risk i'll take to protect myself (I am not dumb enough to have it propped up against the front door either)

2) cheers Butch

I don't doubt that DBD has a rural gun rack next to his rural shoe and coat rack - so don't see a problem in that whatsoever

Fair point, but I think it's fair to point out that many other things are extremely dangerous and illegal, and that it is human nature to 'buck' authority if you'll pardon the pun.

It's for the skunks and raccoons that it's loaded, it's too much bother to faff around with a trigger lock and finding bullets when there's a varmint right there on the rail.

I don't think I noticed it when I was up there, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's been recently fitted.
