I've heard of that one. Doesn't a lot of the food contain very high levels of salt?

Edited to add: Yes i have heard of it, or at least read about it once. Here's a linky to the consumer affairs site where it's not looking too healthy

Reminds me of Peter Kaye and the slimmer that lost 14 stone in a day!

Not sure about that but in the long run my thinking is it is probably better to have too much salt over a short term and lose a couple of stone than carry that weight with you for the rest of your life. I've tried most things without success but this seems to be working.

Honestly, should anyone really need a consultant to tell them to walk about a bit and not put so many crisps in their mouth?

You're fatist. :frown:

Then they have a syns calculator, where you can select your free foods from the list and then input the nutritional information and it will tell you if the food is free or synned and how many syns.

There is also a facebook slimming world group which is great for helping to stay on track.

Thanks for info Shevy, I think I will ignore the hecklers for now, and go for it again, I originally lost 2 1/2 stone with Sw 10 years ago, but not keeping my eye on the ball here in Canada has played havoc! Is the facebook group free or part of SW?

Hey Sue hope the worlds treating you well (still have your cardy here with me btw !!!!!). Sorry to hear the problems with the weight etc.

But can I ask a serious question. If someone puts on X amount of weight over a period of time - such as since moving to Canada, is it not easy to recognise what you are doing different to what you were doing before and then just not do it?

Eg when I moved in with Darcy he eats big meals 4 times a day (and looks like a rake) and because I was doing the same and eatig with him the weight piled on. Normally i'm happy to survive on Ciggies, coffee and a supper (maybe a snack midday) and thats it.

So when I couldn't fit into my jeans anymore I just told Duck that i'll cook his many meals but won't eat all of them with him and voila back to being the weight I want!

Hi Mandy, nice to hear from you- I can,t fit into the cardie now anyway! You are so right in what you say, but if we were all as disciplined as you , there would not be the weight problems here in the western world.

I have been eating more, not eating as healthy as I should, not exercising as much as I did, and dealing with a few emotional issues etc, oh and may I say drinking too much wine!! The availabilty of low fat foods is not as good here as in the UK- I don,t think.

The wine has been scaled back, the focus is on healthier foods, and the sunshine helps with the exercise, but Sw is so good for so many people, it boils down to healthy eating, more exercise, not being hungry, but full ( slimmers enemy is hunger) and keeping a log of food you eat.

Sue

A lot of it is down to habit, you get in the habit of eating two/three take outs, you get in the habit of eating a couple of rows of chocolate bar after dinner, you get in the habit of being lazy when preparing foods so you end up doing quick stuff that's bad for you. These are the things that are relatively easy to change (especially if you have a partner that understands and is supportive).

What's not so easy to change is stopping eating when full (even if there is only a forkful left on the plate). Having a glass of water rather than food when you get a rumbly tummy, I think I read somewhere that hunger and thirst both make you tummy rumble. I'ts also about what food you put on your plate and actually making sure you eat enough.

With most diets there is an element of calorie control, this always works in the short term. Then you platau, so you have to eat less calories to lose more weight, your body goes into starvation mode and actully starts to store the food you are eating rather than using it, which is why a lot of people start getting run down on a diet then they get cravings and then fall off the diet go back to bad eating habits and put on more than they lost and then they have more to lose and the whole idea of dieting again is really depressing.

I would say it's easy to lose 10lbs by just stopping new eating habits like the take outs/4 meals a day etc. But when you have 30/40/50lbs to lose it's much harder, the mountain is harder to climb, you can get disheartened very easily (which is where these slimming clubs come into it for all you cynics that should just not post when you don't understand the situation)..

It is actually hard work dieting unless you only prepare food for yourself, but when you have a family, one a semi veggy another that can eat what they want and then you. All you do is think about food all day, what's for supper? What will work for everyone? I've only just eaten but what will I eat in 3 hours that's going to be good for me when I'm not actually hungry. Crap I've run out of rabbit food I don't feel like going to the shops. I've got to chop a million and one veggies, I've been working all day and all I want is something put in front of me but hang on a minute I have to weigh and measure and write down every morsel that's going in my mouth and actually that supper is foul and I'm still hungry but I can't face another apple, I just want some bread.........But I can't because I've had this months carb allowance Aaarrrrghgghhh!

Anyhow I've just been to Curves, had my shake, need to drink another bucket of water, eat an egg or summat and get myself off to work, God knows what I'm doing for supper:eek::rofl:

It is great to see that posters on this thread are not blaming their glands.

The suggestion that those that don't need to/don't care about dieting don't understand sounds as familiar as those that suggest I don't need to shoot up or drink or drive.

Which is worse for your health though - being overweight or smoking? Sounds like I need to clear out the fridge and stock up on the ciggies:unsure:

Good for you.

And it would be nice if the hecklers (as you politely describe them) would keep in mind the rules regarding posting "respectfully and thoughtfully ... without insult or personal attack."

I really dont want to have to waste my time cleaning up after them.

Cocaine might be a better option. Kate Moss and Blake Fielder-Civil are examples of people who maintain moderate body weight in large part due to use of this drug.

That is the good thing about Nutrisystem or so I am finding so far. You have your meals ready for you so no thinking of what shall I get for dinner - just which one do I want today. You get normal meals for the family and you know that your meal is taken care of. No carb allowances or calorie counting. The food isn't brilliant but it is edible and there is quite a lot of choice. It is also teaching me about portion sizes and that I have to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Normally don't touch breakfast and rarely lunch but make up for it in the evening. I've also bought myself a small plate and bowl so smaller portions don't look lost on a normal plate.

Oh for sure not smoking is healthier for me, however not being abe to fit into my clothes AND having to stop smoking  that would be hell on earth literally for all those who had to live with me.

I enjoy smoking and if it kills me, then I've lived my life doing what I wanted to.

Don't take this personally as it is not meant that way but it is not just killing you but the folks around you. I'll get off my soapbox now as I need to pop out to buy some ciggies to start my new diet:sneaky: I've tried most things so if I thought it would work, I would probably try it. I'll stick to Nutrisystem for now it is probably cheaper.
