Shaving
#1
Might sound like a daft question but I'm interested to know what you all do about shaving, and here's why......
I was using an electric (Braun) shaver up until 6 months ago. I liked the convenience, but always looked like I had a 5 o'clock shadow. I went back to wet shaving, and it felt really good, but was more hassle. I was using super-duper Gillette multi-thingy expensive razors, which never seemed to last more than a few shaves and cost a fortune for the re-fill cartridges.
I've been away for a while (and still am), and in a place where you just can't get the stuff we expect in Canada. I have ended up buying shaving foam (can't get Gel!!) and Bic disposables..... what an eye opener! They shave just as well, last for ages, and are cheap as chips..... and foam, that I haven't used since maybe the 80's, is actually very refreshing....
I feel like I have been shafted on the shaving front for many years... any thoughts????

WalMart, Shoppers Drug Mart, Canadian Superstore, Safeway and a host of others sell shaving gel in many brands. A cheap disposable twin blade will get you 5 shaves per blade and several places sell no name brands for about 3 bucks for a pack of 10.

By gum, thank you Geedee, I am going to show my husband your post. It seems like a major investment when he buys a packet of razor bladey things. He says that Yves Rocher...unfortunately not near us here, has the best shaving foam he's ever had.

Another vote for foam over gel.
I use the expensive cartridges though, adn have the same misgivings with regards to expense. When I have used the cheap disposables, I have not been impressed. Usually make up the savings in bandages.

I find disposables to be a great way of bleeding to death, unless you have skin like a rhino.
The Gillette multi-blades give a much better shave and it's a lot harder to cut yourself (although a sideways slice can have very impressive results).
As for foams, gels etc, the best I have found is Nivea in a tube, like toothpaste. You don't need much.

I agree that with Brauns they are great to begin with but after a year or so, you need a replacement shaver head etc.

The gillette fusion is rubbish my wife got me it last year and it wasn't even worth putting the second blade in (mach 3 was better).
I then went out and got the Wilkinson quatro best shave I have ever had. I am sure like most things in life it's down to personal preference though.
I hate disposables.

Kin hell I cant believe what Im reading has the UK gone metro sexual and not producing real men anymore?
Please dont anybody post that they are using balms and conditioners as well to smooth their skin and cool the effects of razor burn.
There again these posters could be from the southern regions of the UK and not real men as such anyway and part of the southern pansy shandy drinking brigade.
NIVEA FFS thats for women. Whats wrong with Gillette and to finish it off a splashing of Hai Karate or Brut to make you feel manly and a chick magnet.

Do heterosexual men still wear aftershave?

and at times Im glad I did. There will be someone posting I bet how great their new hair stylist called Marcus is. He is an artist with his scissors and oh the way he massages your scalp is divine and to die for. He only uses products that are eco free and organic. His selection of shampoos is second to none. Occasionally he will use the deva fuser to give my hair more bounce and it helps control my split ends.
I just recently saw a pie chart regarding how women and men choose their shampoo. The ladies pie chart was split into about 20 different segments and colour coded based on name brand effectiveness, aroma, colour, ingredients etc etc.
The male pie chart was one segment and one colour only based on the container saying its shampoo.
