I'm not sure that, from a 'work' point of view, things will much different in Calgary or Edmonton, or any other place to be honest - just new enough to be of great interest. In that respect, the people working within the UK police service are no different from many other 'trades' or 'skills'. They seek more out of life, their career and for their families and are driven by frustration in their current position.
I personally know of 11 people who have come over or are in the process of coming over to Calgary - that's alot. I know of 4 others that went to NZ and 7 who have gone to Oz. And that's just me. And it's not as if we all got together one night and discussed it - it was sometimes a sheer fluke that we found out that another person had put in their papers...
These countries are specifically targetting the (good) reputation of the British officer and taking all they can get. So if my experience is anything to go by - there are a hell of a lot leaving the service and heading overseas. Great shame, but I would suggest that many can so easily identify with that Blog. It's not the whole story, but it's as good a place as any to idenitfy some of the issues in today's society.

And now there's another one (not sure whether she'll be moving to Canada though)... as reported on Breakfast News this morning.

At this rate between the paperwork and the blogs no wonder citizens so rarely see any police on the actual streets.

Let me guess. None of these is written by a typical policeman; a small-minded racist who makes up for his own inadequacies by excessive use of violence?
Now that would be worth reading.
Now that would be worth reading.

I just didn't understand !
Are you saying that it is not likely to have been written by your average PC Plod - and that you would rather read something by a racist violent person? Or that you think this was written by a racist, violent person ??

If the public really knew what British police have to do, they'd go crazy.
For example, the amount of times I sat for 10 hours or more, watching a prisoner sleep because they were a risk to themselves.. I mean, I don't mind getting paid £150 to sit and read magazines for 10 hours. It got funny when the shift strength on a Saturday night was 10, and 5 of us were sat in a row watching our respective prisoners.
And that's only one small example.
I would say I spent on average 80% of my day shifts doing paperwork, or more and anywhere from 40 - 90% of my night shifts in the cells or taking statements from people who didn't deserve my time.
But I love the job, and will (hopefully) be doing it again in Canada.
