[BC Only, obv.]

If you want European stuff, 5% Grolsch and 5% Carlsberg are $1.69 for a 500ml can in BC Liquor Stores at the moment.

There's also Dab, Bitburger, Holsten and a few others on offer too.

Makes the local stuff look expensive...

A least in the UK it has become totally socially unacceptable to drink and drive and the penalties are far more severe than they are here. Plenty of people in the UK with happily call the cops if they see a drinker get in to the driving seat.

Canada needs the same 'caught tonight, banned from driving for 18 months tomorrow' regime that the UK has.

Canada is far too soft on ALL crime. As an aside, I see the Surrey Six are claiming compo for being put in dirty cells and being a bit lonely today...Diddums.

You can usually find one pukka European lager at $2/can in the beer store. So yes, the local brews are expensive- and I'm talking Molsleebatts let alone anything actually good.

Oh do stop that! We had some man here who ran over his own toddler with a snow blower and killed the poor kid...nobody is trying to ban snow blowers. The world is full of fools and you will never be able set and set of rules to ban twits and people who just don't, and can't, think. I am sorry you had a bad time - the demon drink and engines are a bad mix....my cousin went out shooting rabbits on his own property and did so on a sand dune...no more cousin! But I'm not anti bunny.

Zero tolerance of allowing people to breed who are quite incapable of thought might be a good option...but we'd probably all die out....haven't you ever done something that you've more than a little regretted, and thanked the powers that be that it all turned out right in the end?

I read this and had to think about it. I can't think of anything

Gosh my list is endless:blink:

My top three might be.....

Don't hitch hike home when somewhat younger.....especially when you've had a few...it will end in tears...usually yours - something I did endlessly

Don't ever mix alcohol and your work environment....you might become frightfully honest...

Never think that the drink that makes you feel good also makes you invincible....you cannot become the Queen of the Bouncy Castle or Trampoline....your time has gone for that...and you are so much the better for it.

My list could fill a tome pretty quick....lots of them involve no alcohol, or legal or illegal substances...but were probably not the best life choices.

Taxing beer to death is a joyless, miserable 'thou shalt not' step, which is becoming far too attractive as a mindset....education is a far better route than the pious one.

Oh yes. After a couple of bouteilles, hanging off Paris balcony with one hand for a photo, comes to mind. Plenty more examples where that came from. In retrospect, every day is a gift. :o:unsure::lol:

While I agree with your view on taxation, I don't think the mindset is becoming more attractive, not here anyway; Ontario governments have always been joyless, miserable and pious. There's nothing cradles won't try to legislate.

DAB was at $1.85 last night in the beer store; mind you the shelf was empty so I settled for a DAB Maibock. 7% at about $2.50. Excellent piss per pence.

I think I'm yet to see a beer mentioned here I wouldn't rather clean my drains out with than pass my lips...

I picked up some Pride and some Sam Adams yesterday. I didn't look at the prices as my demand is inelastic.

At the current CAD to GBP exchange rate, it's cheaper to drink in central London than it is in St John's Newfoundland. So that's what I'm going to do next week.

Are you planning on swimming there, or have you factored in the cost of a return flight into your beer oz/$ calculation?
