There's a 3 part show on BBC iPlayer called HOSPITAL. It's an interesting insight into the NHS and what faces four London Trauma centers as regards lack of patient space and wait times.

That reminds me: a very well known BBC personality once had a terrific rant in one of the UK Sundays (possibly the Times) about how terrible CDN healthcare was, after a visit to my local ER.

'Twas a great source of amusement locally when the actual facts were made known (he hadn't read the details of his travel insurance, & exaggerated/misreported what actually happened) ;).

Clarkson? Well he's not exactly reliable.

But for Natasha Richardson an air ambulance might have saved her life. Is there still none?

There was at that time, and there still is, an "air ambulance". That wasn't the problem for NR, unfortunately :(. It's possible (MAJOR speculation follows) that if she'd gone to be checked out WHEN the accident happened, that she'd have come through :(.

A little concerned that the silicone on the aquarium is breaking off in chunks. The photo shows the worst, but there are 3 smaller areas where the silicone is starting to erode as well.

I could understand if the tank was old, but it's way too young to be showing signs like this already.

Yep, I know about that but a 2hour drive to Montreal maybe a helicopter would have got her there in time for surgery.

Anything is possible... although local gossip at the time was that she *might* have been too far gone even when she got to ER here :(. I don't remember all the details.

The Heli is quite regularly used between here & Montreal when time is of the essence - saved my ex-boss's life: after the fact, she was pissed she knew nothing of her one & only Heli ride ;).

I was just watching it on the news, twice in one season is crazy. We still haven't had our usual share in Regina, it's snowing but our snow removal budget is pretty safe.

Sadly no, but shave them them and nobody would give a naff if the smelly weasels were drowned by the rocks near the bottom of the creek, because they're be horrible little naffers.

I changed it on purpose, call it poetic license. ;)

I'm no expert, but I don't recognise "...shave them them and nobody would give a naff if the smelly weasels were drowned by the rocks near the bottom of the creek, because they're be horrible little naffers..." as being Shakespeare.

Or did you mean The Bared - as in the naked rambler?
Or maybe The Beard -not sure who that could be right now.

On the subject of beards, Shard, you'd be a good person to ask this.

I know you don't pay attention to footballers but there seem to be an awful lot of them - top level - with beards. Not just much more than usual but really full, bushy ones. I think they look very silly normally let alone on professional athletes.

I know there was a national beard day or something but that's just a day and the period leading up to it for growing. But there are so many, for so long now. So to the question.

Is it a general trend with blokes in the UK or is it just something footballers are just doing?
