Just another day at the office, apparently, but the cliche'd understatement (no mention on BE) is impressive.

I heard this on CBC radio news a couple of times last night including at 3.00am.

I was stunned to see nothing about it on the guardian's front page. I did google and find there was a guardian news report - about 6 lines with "more later" - but it seems they were arrested back in November, so one could at least say it's not news now.

Perhaps there was a d notice on it previously.

A video from Los Angeles taken from an uber ride on the freeway with a massive fire on the hillside.

There is currently a late season fire burning in Los Angeles.

A former colleague faced compulsory evacuation late yesterday, she doesn't know if her house is still there or not. :(

Lots of livestock were killed as there wasn't time to evacuate them from the ranches.. so sad.

Multiple messages from people who haven’t read the details in the ad posted (first come first served, can’t deliver, etc etc), a lot of time wasted replying, then more time wasted waiting around for them not to turn up and fetch item(s)....

Lesson learned: call local charity place, schedule pick-up, pick-up happens on schedule, job done. And watch charity sell them for silly prices (NB: good for charity).

Great if that works but even they can be a little awkward....

When mother in law moved in she brought a bunch of things including appliances which were stored in the garage.

Her range was only about 6 months old by then but ours was only 3 or 4 years old at that point so hers remained in the garage.

Recently we decided to bring hers in - it's a nice glass top thing, but otherwise similar - and use it if still working.

Ours was too nice to chuck away and I didn't especially want to put in the garage where hers had been, so I decided to have a token go at selling it on kijiji.

$100 seemed more than fair. Very few people looked at the listing and I had one enquiry.

As is so often the case kijiji responders are not always committed. I said she could call any day any time, just email to say when it would be. "In the morning, if that's okay" she replies and great says I.

The morning comes and goes. Nothing. But I now realise she may have meant it would be a morning, not necessarily today.

So now I'm a bit annoyed. Weekend snow might make it hard to get it in the garage (it's using unnecessary space now), not to mention out to kerbside for a city pick up some time in the next month. And if tomorrow morning is what she means, then that's two mornings I can't go to the store for a grocery shop.

So I contact Habitat Restore and offer it to them. Pick up arranged.

40 minutes later she turns up, presumably not having seen my email to say following no show that I had changed my mind and apologising if she had arranged something for a different morning.

I suppose I could have sold it to her still and come up with a tale for Habitat to cancel but I'd not be comfortable with that.

So I have to explain what I'd done. She was okay about it but had apparently been to Restore yesterday and seen nothing. She had a look at mine, with a view to contacting Habitat Restore after they have it and buying it there.

Doubtless Restore will want around $200 judging by what I've seen there before.

So she'll likely have to pay double what she could have paid and I miss out on $100.

Oh well...

It's odd to have fires so late in the season, times are a changing.

San Diego also has a fire now as well, at least 65 homes destroyed.

California fires: evacuations in San Diego County remain in place; fire conditions improve - The San Diego Union-Tribune

What you need there is a book on tape or a CD to be more modern. My nan gets them out at the library. She's been banned now. :(

I do this. Can't find a decent radio station so I just get audio books out, and so does my OH for his commute.
