High pressure fuel pump went. First 'major' thing I've had with it. It's 10 years old now, I've had it for 5 years.

My last car in the UK was an older one with the supercharger instead of the turbo.

Good to know. We bought it with a known problem. OH is changing the gearbox. I will be probably having it and saying goodbye to my Audi tt.

The ammonium nitrate in the explosion appears to have been sitting there for the past 7 years, was apparently supposed to go from Georgia (the country) to somewhere in Africa, but the ship made an unscheduled stop in Beirut, something happened, and the ammonium nitrate ended up in a warehouse there.

Article here.

I love them. My first car was a mini and several in between. My son has just bought one...that needs a bit of loving...and he really is loving it.

Aaaaaaand it's back in the shop. Engine light came on again this morning and revs were hunting up and down ( always fun in traffic )

Spoke on the phone and he had a Volvo do similar - replaced high pressure fuel pump and then a couple of days later same symptoms. On that one it was grit in a fuel filter so hopefully similar quick fix for the Mini.

Three months ago the old, abandoned for a few years, house next door was demolished.

Today the one at the back of us (which was lived in until recently but seems not to be now ) is currently being taken down.

They were both much older than ours but I still feel like standing guard

Typically if they are wanting to build bigger, higher, closer etc than what the zoning (max building footprint etc) in order to get permits from the City there is a public process and it all gets very technical. If they meet the requirements usually just a building permit and no public process or notification.

It would be interesting to see how much these 'lots' are being sold for in Moncton.

When you say they are being torn down...are there plans for a replacement house or houses?

Dunno. The one next door had been empty since around 2015, was boarded up with signs - presumably for a non-compliant owner/beneficiary - about having to bring it up to a safe standard or whatever the wording was. The fire department had been checking it regularly for a couple of years and then it was demolished in May.

The one over the back of us was advertised for around $70 or $80k (from memory - 2014/15) and was occupied at the time but from the description it needed a few renos. According to the City property assessment site it sold in 2015 for $45,000 (assessed value $46k) and it was lived in since then.

The one demolished today

Assessed value next door comes up as $87k.

The abandoned one

By way of comparison, this one in the same area went for $141K in 2019 but must have been done up a bit as in 2018 it sold for $110k. The assessed value didn't really change though. That's $147k

I ordered a piece of exercise equipment from Amazon.ca for my MIL on Thursday.
Expected delivery (free) on Wednesday or pay $48 to have it tomorrow - Monday.

Not worth forking out almost $50 just to have it 2 days earlier.

Especially as it arrived today, Sunday.

I would like to thank all those members of this site who pay Canadian taxes. As a senior and in line with Mr Trudeau’s promise to pay(give) to all seniors the princely sum of $300 our bank account was enhanced recently in the amount of $600 (2x$300). I’m pleased to say i (we) do not need these funds so immediately donated the amount to the local Food Bank on behalf of all Canadian taxpayers.

i get people mixed up on here so forgive me if I am wrong but I feel that you are more than a bit cynical about the current government and/or this payment so double well done for donating it, as there’s plenty would criticize but keep the cash.

I've only used Amazon once, wasn't a very good experience so didn't bother again. A couple of my sisters use it though and haven't had any problems, so I might give it another try.

I've had that, scheduled for Tuesday, delivered on Sunday, and with covid precautions didn't know till I got an email to say it had been delivered, and there was a photo, which I looked at, and there was my parcel, by the delivery table in the entrance, they must have been delivering something else as well as I wasn't buzzed to let them in.

I put a tenner on a horse to finish at 20 to 1. Crossed the finish line at 10 past 7. Never bet on another horse since.

Reader's Digest doesn't pay anymore, they give you a year's subscription to their crappy magazine. It isn't what it used to be.
