Not as annoying as mainly being interested in "add-on" channels and having to pay for a more expensive package of even more channels one doesn't want to watch so as to be able to add the channels one does want to see.

You don't need to do that anymore, under new legislation they have to allow you to 'pick n pay / small packages' letting you choose the additional channels you want and not having to upgrade to get them.

CRTC - Support Centre - Can I pick my own TV channels?

"You also have more options to add to that service as TV service providers must offer channels either individually or in packages of up to 10 channels. As of December 1, 2016, they have to offer both options."

Ah but they are still "clever" about it. The last time I looked, the skinny packages didn't include the box and they didn't include being able to add the sports channels.

I'm just looking at ShawDirect and it's similar to last time.

There's a 'Limited' TV service for $25 and, yes, you can add a lot of channels but none of Sportsnet or TSN.

For the privilege of having those you need to step up and there is a package that looks quite good including Sportsnet/TSN. But then it doesn't include a couple of channels that the others in the family would like, and if I have the sports channels it's fair for them to have what they want.

And then the cost of additional receivers. And already it's more expensive for that plus internet than it is for my BellAliant 3 service package.

And back on BellAliant, just for TV, Sportsnet/TSN are again not in the cheapest service. To include them you need the package we have.

Things may not be "as bad" as they were, but if you want Sportsnet/TSN you still have to have a bunch of things you don't want. :(

And if you want to watch English football you need Sportsnet/TSN.

I'm in Ottawa with Rogers which is a company that make you feel dirty every time you get off the phone with them.

A friend of mine here who cut the cord has managed to use my rogers email address and password that I use to check on my account and also I think it is my rogers identifier in some way to log into watch online via the Sportsnet app on his Ipad or computer the premier league games he is interested in. He has the misfortune of being a Hull City fan.

Yes those skinny basic plans have many loopholes and aren't really for most people unless they have a burning desire to watch CPAC or the Shopping Network.

Yes, that's the attractive one. It's actually very similar to the one we started out with - Bilingual package which included the sports channels that other packages didn't.

I halved that a couple years ago following a customer friendly change, and then BellAliant offered such a good deal for three years that meant we got virtually the original choice back for even less.

That's actually a different website to the one I used as we were with ShawDirect - I have no idea what the difference is. :lol:

On one of the other threads I posted the bundle prices (post 143) and then compared them minus a service.

Isolate the cost of Internet and Phone only from the monthly bill and the TV is essentially free for the rest of the promo period and thereafter it's $35.

So for me to save on the TV element it has to be lower than $35 or nothing. :nod:

Right now I don't think there's a better deal for phone/internet/tv but this may change when the three years are up

So Snoop bought a couple of what is in essence a couple of bubble wrap wine bottle protectors when travelling to put in our luggage, from Amazon. This is how they arrived... quite why they needed a large box and protective brown paper packaging ever so slightly puzzles me. Aside from the occasional pop, bubble wrap always seemed a little more resilient in my eyes :confused:

AFAIK Amazon only has a few box sizes, so everything has to fit in them, this means either folding and glueing them to make them smaller, or using loads of packing so the contents don't rattle about, so it often seems a ridiculous sized box for things.

Not really an excuse Mike, that is such a massive waste of packaging which will get recycled yes but it seemed ridiculous and incredibly wasteful to protect bubble wrap in such a way

:lol:Your telling me! I nearly had a Dicky fit when I saw how much they had charged heher for it! I would've quite happily wrapped them up myself with bubble wrap and tape from say Stapless would have been infinitely more cheaper but there again what do I know!?
