PR's don't want to pledge
3 would be citizens are in court today saying that pledging alegence to the queen is discrimination, against their beliefs.
Ohh dear !! http://www.calgaryherald.com/touch/s...tml?id=8647780 "Welcome to Canada, what can we change for you" |
Re: PR's don't want to pledge
Their objections seem rather feeble. One's tenuously connected to Ireland, one claims religion, one thinks it's "a bit much". A dreary bunch, offer them Ecuadorian passports instead.

Re: PR's don't want to pledge
Agreed
It will be interesting to see what they do if they don't win the case ? Will they leave the country in disgust and return to wherever? |
Re: PR's don't want to pledge
simple then , don't become a citizen.
No compulsion to do so. It's not like they make it a secret that it is part of the ceremony. Noone is forcing them to leave or anything |
Re: PR's don't want to pledge
This has come up in the military when soldiers are a bit iffy about pledging an oath to the Queen - they always lose.

Re: PR's don't want to pledge
I wouldn't want to pledge alegence to the queen either.
I didn't vote for her. |

I didn't vote for her. Saying, "but this is me, change the rules and you can have me" is unlikely to provoke a rush to change the rules. |
Re: PR's don't want to pledge
If they don't want to Pledge and follow the rules, then no Citizenship for them is what I say. They knew when they applied what the process is, if they didn't like it then don't apply just stay PR. My daughter, husband and I will take their spots;)

That is so annoying that the wait for Citizenship is so long then you hear about this. Like "susprise" you goto take an oath at the end !!!!! We all know this so think before you file.

Re: PR's don't want to pledge
I suggest that as far as the Irishman's argument goes, the biggest "betrayal of his republican heritage" is his voluntarily choosing to live for 50-odd years in a country with the Queen as head of state.

Re: PR's don't want to pledge
When the 3 poor downtrodden badly done by and dicrimated against immigrants arrived here in the 60's and 70's Canada was more royalist than it is now. So why even make the move in the first place ?
