Why is it that if you send someone a pm, or reply to a pm, people then put it down on an open forum.

The recipients know that they have got a pm - it shows up on your screen as soon as it comes ffs - along with the reply. There really is no need for the "sent you a pm" - "replied to pm" business.

I think we do it to prove to the rest of the forum that are having conversations not on the board lol. How self absorbed is that

See now thats another one (and I know you kow it is thats why you sent it to hilite the point) but the recipients know they have the Karma (unless they don't know where to look). So it's just an under the table way of saying I agree with you but am not going to put it into words.

Nope I don't think mods can read pm's (only their own!) - wouldn't it break some sort of privacy code / law or whatever?

I would hope not. Somebody on the BE staff will be able to though as it's just data in a database somewhere.
