huh....Is Australia immune to the PC virus then?.....If we all go, can we say what we like to anyone?......What about the yanks? thats not too far for us to travel...they're not pc surely?
Wouldn't the world be a happier place if we could all say what we really meant

Do you really giving everyone a license to be as rude and offensive as they like is a good idea? Is there something so very wrong with thinking (at least a little) about the impact of what you are about to say/write? I really don't think the impact on my freedom that comes from thinking just a little bit about others is comparable to the freedom to be able to live my life without being abused. If you are the subject of abuse (however "well intentioned") especially for something which causes you difficulties it is a pretty horrible situation. The sort of thing that causes people to be unhappy, depressed, fail to achieve their potential and occasionally to become suicidal. Personally I think that the desire to belittle and bully others is not a positive one, and certainly not something to be proud of.

Yes wouldn't it be great if we could all go around airing our prejudices and making other people's lives miserable? Hey, I don't like fat people much, wouldn't it be just fab if I could walk up to anyone overweight and slag them off for eating too much and taking up too much space? Men could tell women that they are stupid, and white people could tell black people they are monkeys. Oh, and everyone could tell disabled people they would have been better off if they hadn't been born. We'd all be so much happier wouldn't we, and the world would be a much nicer place.

Hi nooka, In no way have I unsulted anyone here by calling them anything...maybe you should go back and re-read the previous posts. The fact that it slightest thing can get blown out of all proportion was my point. It would be great if on one ever got called a name or had a nasty comment made too or about them....but it's never going to happen. Do you honestly think i've spent 41 years on this earth and not heard a negative comment about myself....please
And i'd just like to add, i've never bullied anyone in my life, in school or at work....and thats something i am proud off.

Personally I don't care that much if someone says something derogatory to me about something I have done or said or a choice I have made, because those are things I can influence and have ownership of. But being attacked for who you are is very different.
In any case what is wrong with hoping to make the world a better place? My point was that your idea seemed to be that if everyone could just say what they like things would be better. This seemed to me to be a stupid thing to say, because unless everyone is actually much nicer than they generally let on, most people think worse things about other people than they ever are prepared to say about them (face to face at least).
