Re: OK. Harper's dead meat...

One wonders if the delay in providing the emails to the RCMP was because someone was busy editing out all the incriminating bits.

Terry Milewski was getting quite agitated discussing this on the radio. Harper plainly said that he did not know about the Wright/Duffy deal. Until this is proved a lie we have to accept it as true. However, he has been given ample opportunities, in and out of the house, to deny he knew of other aspects of the affair - including the proposed deal between the Party and Duffy. Each time he has chosen to ignore the question and answer a different one.

Why? This evasiveness is killing him and the Conservative Party in the polls. What is the secret that must be kept that makes it worthwhile?

Bolded bits. You, my friend, should meet my wife.

These were exactly her comments earlier this evening.

Personally I think Oakvillian nailed the original sin way upthread.

Harper appointed Duffy as a PEI Senator, knowing full well that he wasn't (isn't) a bono fide resident of said Province. Duffy has documentation showing that Harper knew this and said it was OK anyway.

My very perceptive Mrs. would like to know what Duffy has on Harper that would cause the latter to f**k up so dramatically on the cover up of the cover up of the cover up of the...

You see what she means?

I doubt it's an extra-marital affair or two, so can only surmise that it's much, much worse!

I still wouldn't could old Steveo out. A 6% Lib lead in the ISPOS polls comes from a softening of NDP support as well as dissatisfied Tories (though that latest article is still before the Perrin email news). As the end of the article on ISPOS website says 2 years is a long time until the election and time is on the Conservatives' side. Will he win or lose support for his stance on Israel and against the Iran nuclear agreement, (short term that it is)? I think our support for Israel should be conditional on their observance of UN resolutions they openly disregard. There is a great deal of business (ok, I'm guessing) that the government conducts that we should judge them on, and paying Duffy off seems sort of trivial - we paid a million to fly a bullet proof limo for Harper (I didn't like that!), so I don't give a rat's about 90 grand in bad expenses as long as it got paid back and the greedy soandsos got fired. They already made great money and cheated anyway. If Trudeau gets a little high after supper and says he admires the Harper Government for the way they facilitate, and get things done, the polls could change again.:)

The electorate, by and large, don't give a stuff about Canada's stance towards Israel or Iran. Foreign policy rarely, if ever, features in general elections issues analysis - it's always about the domestic economy and what's in it for number one. Unless it's an actual fighting war, in which case it may either help or hinder the PM depending on whether we're winning or losing it.

For the record, I think the policy on Iran is yet further evidence of how far out of touch with world affairs the Canadian government really is, and how isolated Harper and his cronies are on the world stage. But it's hardly surprising that Canada doesn't have good intelligence on the situation in Iran, seeing as how the embassy was closed down earlier this year. Stupid.

So you don't think Canadians are a bit more cognizant of Mideast affairs than we were before Afghan and the Arab Spring? Trade issues are front and centre in the news now as well - I think the govt is judged on more than just domestic policies these days. The way we usually seem to blindly follow the US' lead is at least being differed from in the Iran case.

In a nutshell, what is the policy on Iran?

I disagree (as usual :)) but this thread isn't about which party will win in 2015, it's about which party leader will the conservatives have at the time.

Could be Harper, saw him playing Sweet Caroline on keyboard and singing on the news last night. I don't think Peter Mackay can sing like that. Harper hasn't really been in power that long, it just feels like a long time.

Especially to the Conservative backbenchers.

That despite all the evidence to the contrary, Tehran remains a hotbed of state-sponsored terrorism, Hassan Rouhani is a dissembling puppet of the Ayatollahs, Benjamin Netanyahu remains Uncle Steve's BFF and his opinion on Iran is paramount. POlicy towards Iran seems to be inextricably linked to the Canadian government's position on Israel, also looking increasingly isolated.

To summarize: Israel good no matter how many UN resolutions they break; Iran bad no matter how many UN resolutions they comply with.

As John MacEnroe says: You cannot be serious! Even the USA has managed to overcome its prejudices on Iran. I hadn't realised Harper's misjudgement was on quite so grand a scale.

Well said, apart from the botched spelling of McEnroe.
