A somewhat similar case in BC not so long ago.

http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/10...bunal-hearing/

The tribunal decided that, if you offer services to the public, you cannot discriminate amongst your customers on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation etc. If your religion forbids you from offering your services to all on an equal basis then you should not be in business.

Interesting points. We should have a poll on who you think will win (not who you think is right, but then, we have two polls) - the barbers or the "lesbo".

Can you add a poll to a thread once it's started or do you have to start a new thread?

I really think you should stop with the homophobic references.

Interesting how you singled me out when I'm just quoting others - hence the quotes.

So let me rephrase - barbers vs the woman with short hair. Is that OK?

It was me who initially referred to the lady in question as a "lesbo", although to be fair, it was in the deliberately derogatory context of "strident lesbo harpy". In such a context, I feel the term is quite appropriate.

I disagree.

So you believe your opinion is better than mine? ;)

I thought at the time that was a bullshit ruling. Would you really use the law to force a prostitute to have sex with anyone who wanted to and could afford it. Or close down all those religious schools. Or any group/organization aimed exclusively at gender/ethnic group/sexual orientation? You mentioned tyranny of the majority above and that's exactly what this ruling is. it's "You there with the unpopular attitude - we are going to shut you down."

I despise this country sometimes. Sadly it's just as bad in the UK.

There was of course a case in the UK recently about a Christian couple who ran a B&B who refused a room to a gay male couple on grounds that it was against their belief.

It went to the Court of Hurt Feelings or whatever, and final score was Poofs 1, God Botherers 0.

I remember that one but I thought they were in Canada.

What we need is more rules and laws for this kinda stuff so that we all how to react, act and not have an opinion - NOT.

Where's the days where you could just tell someone to f_ck off and pound sand.

Am I the only one who goes to a unisex hairdresser? Always have.

Anyway, I'll be interested to see what the outcome is.

I hate going to the hairdresser's generally but most of them have male and female clients. A barber shop is much more a male preserve. All those car magazines and things for the weekend. Cheaper and less fancy too I imagine. MOH goes to a barber, they do the ear and eyebrow trim thing which is essential if a chap wants to look sane.

My daughter is training to be a hairdresser through her high school, so being a cheap Scotsman, she does mine. Before that, I went to a salon (all salons are unisex aren't they?) near my office that had a deal on Thursdays for guys. It just happens the first time I got my haircut it was a gay guy at the salon. He did a great job, seemed like a nice enough guy and I couldn't care less what his sexual preference is.

Thankfully, not there yet :)

Hope they do the nose-hair too....nothing more disgusting than seeing a guy or female that can't be arsed to trim their dangling nose hair, especially in the winter when snort is dripping from it......ewwwwwwwwwwww
