What about all the money it costs to scrape your entrails off the road and cart your wrecked car off to the tip?
If they didnt bother with those costly enquires into fatal crashes it would probably be cheaper overall if more people die in accidents ,rather than paying to patch them up in hospital afterwards:p No need to treat the dead, and the overall quality of the gene pool would improve too:) |

I think most of these things are covered by "driving without due care and attention". You should get a passenger to do these things or wait until you can stop the car. I seem to remember there was a hilarious fuss in the UK a while back about a woman who was prosecuted for eating an apple whilst driving. I don't have a problem with that.
As a cyclist I'd love to see more enforcement of this kind of thing in Canada; particularly with regard to cell phones. http://london.fridaycities.com/knowl...versations/571 |

I'd be prosecuted! :o I thought about ear plugs - have a seven seater so I can separate them in rows, but then they pick on the teenagers! :curse: The joys of parenting. |

An intersting point in this context.
Who is more likely to hurt an innocent bystander, someone driving along without a seatbelt, or someone losing control while trying to light a fag and turn left at the same time? Frankly as an adult if Im doing something of my own freewill, and Im aware of the risks and I'm not harming anyone else, what business is it of the governments what I choose to do. In that respect no smoking in the car legislation makes more sense than seatbelt legislation, but of course the existing "driving without due care and attention" legislation should be enough to cover smoking, cell phones, Ipods, blowjobs or any other thing that is distracting a driver from job #1 driving a car. The whole thing smacks of hypocracy, its really just a further attempt to disenfranchise smokers. Smoking has been known to be dangerous to health for decades, but they cant ban it entirely as they would lose the tax revenue it generates and supplies would go black market and just a many people would still smoke anyway, so they are just making it harder to do any way they can. |

And then the final "will my fag fly into the back seat and set the carpet on fire" flick out the window.
As a biker this wouldnt upset me as I'm fed up trying to avoid ciggy butts thrown out of car windows. :curse: A friend had a lit ciggy butt lodge against his neck and had to quickly cross from lane 3 on the M6 to the hard shoulder while it burnt through to his skin  As a self-righteous ex-smoker I rejoiced when it said on the radio today that the age for buying cigs has gone up to 18  Adbru |

I remember it well, just come out of an O Grade exam and was furious the shopkeeper didn't believe I was 16 when I showed him my exam paper :o |
Re: No smoking in your car!!!!!
I smoke, I smoke in my car, and I am going to carry on doing that.....
I get everyone's point about lack of distractions etc, but what is everyone going to do drive from A to B without removing hands from the steering wheel? We all do things behind the wheel that could cause distraction. :o Wind down window Turn volume up/down CD Pick nose (not me, always they guy behind) Shout at kids/practise times tables Talk Sneeze (scary that one! Thats what they should ban... No driving if you have a cold or hayfever). What will they stop next?? I have children so I do not smoke in the house, my only refuge is the car! (not when children are in the car). I smoke with the window down (whatever the weather). I leave a couple of cigarettes out of the packet, with a lighter. I have an ashtray right by the steering wheel that you just drop the cigarette into, no need to stub out! Where is the problem with this? Personally I think they should crack down on people using mobile phones, not the smokers! Each to their own, you can smoke in the car and be safe you just have to sensible... :)Charlie:) |

Heard on the radio this morning that they want to ban smoking in your car!!! OK fine in courtesy cars and brilliant in public bars as its the whole passive smoking issue or whatever and i'm really sorry to shout but THIS IS MY OWN BL**DY CAR AND I'LL DO WHAT THE HELL I WANT IN IT THANK YOU :curse::curse: What are they gonna do put smoking huts in laybys so now as well as seeing groups of us outside of our work and pubs having a crafty fag, we'll all be lined up along the side of the road. :sneaky: I for one will never adhere to this law as long as I smoke so flipping well there :frown: |
Re: No smoking in your car!!!!!
Its not a ban on smoking in your car, i dont think they could do that
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...-mostviewedbox "It means that if a driver crashes his or her car while smoking they could be charged with driving without due care and attention. That could mean a fine of up to £2,500, three to nine penalty points or even a ban." What about if you crash whilst telling the kids to behave or changing the volume on the cd player or putting the air con on as its too hot  But its ok to drink your tim's or mcdonalds etc etc;) |

Chances are in Canada that the road is dead straight,, you probably have the cruise control on, and the road is wide enough that even if you do swerve around a bit looking for the sour cream glazed timbits in the bottom of the box that you wont hit anything anyway;)
