No smoking in your car!!!!!
:curse: Sorry had to write and vent my anger on this one.
Heard on the radio this morning that they want to ban smoking in your car!!! OK fine in courtesy cars and brilliant in public bars as its the whole passive smoking issue or whatever and i'm really sorry to shout but THIS IS MY OWN BL**DY CAR AND I'LL DO WHAT THE HELL I WANT IN IT THANK YOU :curse::curse: What are they gonna do put smoking huts in laybys so now as well as seeing groups of us outside of our work and pubs having a crafty fag, we'll all be lined up along the side of the road. :sneaky: I for one will never adhere to this law as long as I smoke so flipping well there :frown: |
Re: No smoking in your car!!!!!
Hooray!
Sorry, but I wWish they would do it here - Nothing makes me more annoyed than driving down the road behind someone who throws their still smoking butt (not arse obviously) out of the car window. Once found a bird's nest, which was made up of cigarette butts and it was filled with dead baby birds...I assume they died of nicotine poisoning. |

Re: No smoking in your car!!!!!
I think you have missed the point, its a matter of SAFETY and distraction etc

Re: No smoking in your car!!!!!
No not missed the point at all, I totall yunderstand that issue - however are they going to stop cd's in cars - after all I would have thought fiddling with those whilst driving is a lot more distracting than smoking?
Farting about in your bag / pocket whatever for change for a toll maybe? It just seems to be going a step too far, and you are not telling me that anyone who smokes in their car always has one hand off the wheel like you would do when using mobiles? |

I agree with all the other things - perhaps drivers should just be more responsible/aware when driving... hands should just be on the wheel and the gearstick when needed. i suppose thats why there is the law 'driving without due care and attention'.... Tina :) |
Re: No smoking in your car!!!!!
:o Yes you're right :)
But things like that are so difficult to police - I think thats probably why they are doing it with the smoking thing - you can see proof there if you know what I mean - which basically says at some stage a hand will have been off the wheel at some point. However I would defy anyone to say they have never done something they shouldn't while driving ;);) |

Re: No smoking in your car!!!!!
I am soooo glad I have given up.
I do think it is totally stupid though, it's the only bloody place you can smoke now. I agree with you Mandy, I don't think it is about safety, it's just another way of the government harassing smokers (though people will be crying out for bans to be lifted when their taxes have risen to cover the lost revinue that smokers generate). You need to take your hands off the steering wheel to change gear, indicate, fiddle ith the air con so what difference does it make having a fag? It's not like both hands are off for any longer than changing gear. Personally I don't think they have a right to dictate to you in your own property, I saw red when they told me as a community nurse I should go round to my clients and tell them (not ask) when I visit they can't have a cig in their own home for at least an hour before:curse:. Yeh right, if someone had said that to me I'd have told em where to go. Sharon |

Re: No smoking in your car!!!!!
Are nurses etc. also banned from smoking for an hour before they enter clients' homes?
I'm an ex-smoker of the worst kind, the coughing, fanning face in dramatic way kind... and I once complained about a DWP bod or whatever they're called now coming to visit me stinking of fags. She obviously put one out on my doorstep and it was a cold wet day, so the kid and I had to endure cold wet fag stench.

I would never ask anyone not to smoke in their own home, I think it's totally out of order & with my client group I want to engage people not alienate them. I know some of my colleagues do though, they have been thrown out on a few occasions and had to deal with the resulting anger, which would have not normally occurred. To me there is more risk of encoutering aggresive behaviour than experiencing effects of passive smoking. Sharon |
Re: No smoking in your car!!!!!
One thing that winds me up is to see kids trapped in the back of a car where the parent is smoking.
Do what you like to your own health, and by all means a ban on smoking in your own car on your own is a bit nuts, after all, last time I checked tobacco was still taxed and legal, but Ive no problem banning smoking if kids are in the car. As far as distraction goes, it might be a factor, but phones are not even banned in most of canada yet. What next, the radio? Does anyone still use a radio or are you all busy fidling with your ipod? |
Re: No smoking in your car!!!!!
It's an expression of petty minded spite against smokers. A classic example of the Canadian love of regulation and bureaucracy. If only them unhyphenated Canadians could do proper jobs like taxi driving and potato harvesting they wouldn't all have to spend all day every day dreaming up new laws so as to make life a misery for the rest of us. Kill all the second generation Canadians I say, make a free country where immigrants can smoke, hang out laundry, and bicycle without helmets.
