For the most part an indifference to and obliviousness of the other ethnic/cultural groups seems to be the Canadian way. Canada would appear to big enough to accommodate different groups doing their own thing.

My point was it's a mainly political construct and people (often) tend to take as little notice of political ideas as possible. I've heard enough disparaging comments about "natives", "french" and "indians" that it's clear there is an under-current in Canada. Even had discussions with people who have plenty of (negative) things to say about the immigration policy of Canada. With my accent it's obvious I'm an immigrant but it doesn't stop people. Which is good - I like frank honesty. I often agree with some of what they say.

are they a specific ethnic group, Canadians in general or Brits?

I have zero issues with the immigration policy of Canada & why, well because (whinge, kick & complain all I want) there isn't anything I can personally do about it or change it (its above my pay level).

Now if I don't like it or it effects my living & lifestyle that much - then I'd move on to another country which has a better immigration policy than Canada

I'm against the very concept of multiculturalism. It divides many communities in society and does not encourage neither integration or assimilation.

I believe it works in Canada because there's nothing to assimilate to, there isn't a Canadian culture.

I don't see how it could divide a community, the community is the group of people of the same culture, thus the Vietnamese are a culture, we (expat Londoners from north of the river) are a culture, Hassidic Jews are a culture. People rarely leave one culture to join another, though some drift into a limbo state and belong to no culture; people in Mississauga tend to be like that. How do you think cultures in Canada are divided by the presence of other cultures?

Canadians in general...which often means "european" some way down the line.

Not sure when/if you ever went through the immigration system but if you have zero issues with it you must be incredibly accommodating.

It also often means "asian" or "african" and very commonly means "mixed". Ethnicity isn't a useful means of ranking Canadians.

If multiculturalism was so accepted in canada there wouldnt be major white flight from its cities . Canadians have been told they need 250000 immigrants a years despite there being 8% unemployed. With freedom if movement within eu and high living standards there is less incentive to move to somewhere like Canada. So canada has to recruit immigrants from anywhere, mainly third world countries. To to say there is no culture in canada is an insult to the europeans (mainly Brits , French and Irish) that help found and develop tr great nation that is canada.
