This is becoming more and more strange by the day...

Vietnam according to CNN is pulling back on the search until Malaysia provides better information about where to look.

""We have scaled down the searches for today and are still waiting for the response from Malaysian authorities," Phan Quy Tieu, Vietnam's vice minister of transportation, told reporters"

http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/12/world/...html?hpt=hp_t1

CBC reports Malaysia has asked for India's assistance to help search the Andaman Sea region for the aircraft as the search widens, they also report authorities seem to be unsure of which direction the plane actually went.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/malaysi...-jet-1.2569129

This is turning out to be a most puzzling case.

It must have been shot down by someone. They are squabbling to see who will take responsibility.

Don't look at CNN, it'll rot your brain. Shot down by what, another airplane we have no trace of? Russian missle from submarine? CNN has a reporter outside the Russian embassy waiting to see if they will come out and make a statement about missle from submarine. Malaysian official explained yesterday the mis-communication re: the radar plot and how it was only 'possible' the plane changed course (it was a language barrier mistake) and CNN is still milking it. CNN started the first Gulf War. :-)

This one, I also find very very strange. It actually leads me to think of the remote possibility that the plane didn't even crash at all, just landed somewhere in a remote airport safely the reasons behind this unknown?

Everything is just pure speculation at this point.

Has this thread so far missed the possibility that the aircraft and occupants have been abducted by an alien being and right now sipping margaritas on a beach front property in another galaxy laughing at all the commotion and speculation as to what happened to them.

I did allude to that in Post #59, although not quite as poetically as you have done. A distinct possibility.

Tractor Beam - Tractor Land. The news this week had a by-line about a spike in UFO reports in Canada, but that could just be the build-up towards St. Patrick's Day.

I wouldn't call that a remote possibility; it seems the most likely possibility right now, unless it was the aliens.

There must be many thousands of square miles within range where you could land the thing if you don't plan to take off again.

It's in the water, if the cellphones were still actually above water they would have triangulated them by now. There is no land search at all apparently, they're looking in the sea.

I remember that Korean plane that was flying around all over the place after a hydraulic failure, took quite some time before it came down and crashed, and there have been several where decompression rendered the crew unconscious.

What makes it odd is that the transponders were turned off which is not a casual thing to do.

A fight between the pilots after one of them decided to commit suicide seems the most plausible explanation. Or perhaps they went dotty from lack of oxygen which explains the bizarre behaviour.

But the cell phones were ringing for 3 days, which wouldn't have been possible if it was in water.

It could be, I call phones all the time that appear to ring but don't, it's because they're in another jurisdiction so you get the ringing tone while it tries to connect but it never actually does.

So basically, incompetence on the part of the Malaysian authorities (and the press) which I find easier to believe than a New Zealander making up what he saw.
