Amazon is leasing a fairly large amount of space in a new office building currently under construction downtown, 1.13 million square feet for high tech purposes.

A bit concerning as if they bring in workers in large numbers who don't currently reside in Vancouver, will only put more pressure onto housing.

This driver didn't learn their lesson.

Could be a fueling strike at the 2 Montreal airports, fueling company Swissport has been unable to reach a settlement with it's employees.

Swissport says they will have plans in place which means management will fuel aircraft, but there could still be delays.

Not sure what the pay in Montreal is, in Vancouver Swissport pays $16 per hour, apparently when Swissport took over the contract for fueling from the previous company they slashed wages considerably.

Can't remember just where is the UK, but a chap was flashed by a camera, well over the limit, he just carried on at the same speed, by the end of the road he had totalled 6 fines, and 18 points, he explained that the thought if he had been caught by one camera the others didn't count .. WRONG.

Probably Birmingham. Felt like driving in a straight jacket last time I was there, cameras all over the place.
Got caught once in Gateshead and opted to take a police course rather than collect points. Instructor suggested that cameras weren't there to collect fines (think he was lying) and went on to say that only 25% were active at any time (more lies as demonstrated by last post).

I think that depends on where they are, Motorway and major trunk road were more likely to be active, but a lot are turned off permanently now, and they use the mobile ones, and average speed cameras on motorways, you are noted by one camera, and a second one perhaps a couple of miles further on sees the car again and works out the average speed it must have gone. On board cameras in police cars, both marked and unmarked carry them are also used.

They recently started some speed enforcement at intersections that already had red light cameras, they don't appear to be planning random photo radar yet in BC, and the intersections that have these cameras are well marked with signs, only a fool would speed through them, but then people still run red lights at these intersections, the speed grace given isn't known exactly, government says if you drive like a normal person you wont get a ticket, but 20-30 over the speed limit seems to be the numbers going around, and really nobody should be doing 70-80 on city streets.

As far as I know there are none on highways, although some highways to have variable speed limits now that change based on conditions.

In the UK, AFAIK, the grace level is usually 5%, as it is with blood Alcohol, the alcohol level was set at 5% grace level by testing the same sample at all the forensic labs in the UK, and looking for the worse performoing lab, which got a result 2.5% too high, so they dpoubled that level and automatically deduct that off the result. The idea was to ensure that no sample sent by the driver to one of the labs would produce a result that would put the driver under the limit. Speed is somewhat different, but AFAIK all police cars have their speedos checked very regularly.

Interesting tidbit in that Vancouver has less hotel rooms now vs 2010, no wonder rates are so high, a 2 star hotel here can charge $200+ a night during busy times, not a good city to need a hotel in.

Vancouver has had its first homicide of 2020, the event took place on January 1st but the person died on the 2nd in hospital. No suspects at this time, assault took place in the homeless camp set up in a local park.
