Not the local paper but local radio.

This morning our second (expected) big snowstorm had begun, schools closed, warnings about driving conditions etc

The announcer/newsreader said advice was only to go out if essential. Then in the next sentence advertised that today was a seniors discount day at a named store.

This was not pre-recorded, but one of those sponsorship style things.

If he'd said "...sponsored by (store) who are holding a discount day..." then that wouldn't have been so bad.

But "don't go out unless essential....come and shop at our store today" just looks silly.

typical

some of these announcers are brain dead

i despise the types who feel obligated to wear a constant pleasant smile and who report mundane stories as well as tragedies with the same facial expression and all they do is read a prepared script

I don't suppose they have much choice even if they did go to their boss and say "should I really tell people to stay home except for emergencies and trivia?"

But is nobody connected to the police ever thinking how can we discourage unnecessary travel via a medium encouraging people to do the opposite?

How about the marketing/advertising people? Don't they see an advantage in a common sense policy registering as such with their customers?

Perhaps this is another example of "it's the way it is" and not even thinking about it.

And then, later in the local paper I read of a decision made that during snowstorms, there would be no jail to/from court transfers as a safety measure.

Lots of public services were closed yesterday. Local and national gov, libraries etc.

An advert in the local paper advises of a truck sale of citrus fruit from 12:30 to 2:30 on Christmas Eve. Navel oranges and grapefruit will be available from the truck, parked opposite Tim Horton's, for $28 a box.

Yet another story about people complaining of their cars being 'booted' after parking where they're not supposed to park.

This guy claims it's illegal interference with the operation of his property, or mischief, and he plans to test it by contacting the RCMP to charge the booters the next time he gets booted for deliberately parking where he's not supposed to.

We had a lovely, albeit Wierd & hilarious, possible "UFO" sighting story recently. I have been eagerly awaiting the follow-up. In vain. ;-)

Otherwise : Multiple car pile-up on highway 15 victims were transported to hospital. ... Er, Duh? ... ;-)

No follow up. Either the aliens have been back for those who saw them or the government has them locked away somewhere.

It does make sense...I mean look at the pile of snow the city has been busy dealing with....if people park on the streets, it makes it difficult for the ploughs to get around
