I was looking at this earlier and am so pleased that I can have a place like this (not THE same of course) on a lake for decidedly less than GBP2m

Yes there must be some really nice lakeshore properties in NS. Although the hills in the Lake District are beautiful, the lakes themselves are nothing special when compared to NS/Canadian Lakes, access to LD is limited, and it's too crowded in summer.

Something trivial, but supposedly there are more lakes in Canada than the rest of the world combined.

The Lake District is indeed beautiful, but as with many other of the world's beauty spots, a visit there is ruined by...........................human beings.

Google 'okanagan lakefront property' you can buy land for about $150-200k CAD and then build a cabin on it. Same goes for the gulf islands

You may not get 10 lots in a row, but there appears to be stuff out there.

One lot under $150k on leased First Nations land. There's no such thing as inexpensive property on Okanagan lake.

I am up for this as well if there really is such a thing as 150k lots on that lake!

What are the other lakes in or around the Okanagan (ie. not Okanagan Lake) that are popular for cottages etc. ?

The main lakes are Okanagan, Skaha, Osoyoos Lake, Wood Lake, Kalamalka Lake and Mabel Lake. There are also some beautiful ones further north in the Salmon arm area. There are many many smaller more remote lakes with nice properties such as Osprey lake, Chain lake and link lake behind Summerland or Beaver lake behind Winfield or Hydraulic Lake , fish lake, browne lake near big white - too many to mention but lots to choose from

No need for the lottery win if it is just for a weekend retreat as you can pick them up pretty reasonable - this one is next door to our friends cabin on fish lake near big white. http://kelowna.kijiji.ca/c-real-esta...AdIdZ390877645 and this is my hubby on the same lake (our friends cabin in the background) this winter.
