1) It isn't just newbies that post 'stupid' questions or comments.

Doesnt it really matter who posts them?

2) With the very very odd exception I have never had a go at any newbie for asking what others (or even I) consider a 'stupid' question
Fair enough

3) Certain individuals who post on this board have been in Canada for a long time and shouldnt need to ask half the things they do.
Maybe it just never came up before? Really what does it matter how long you have been here

4) We all have bad days
You arent the only one, maybe the people posting stupid questions they should have found the answer to years ago are also having a bad day too.

5) As has been said before if you dont like a post(er) then just ignore it(them)
Amen

6) If you're looking for nicey nicey all the time this isnt the place to find it.
I dont know anywhere that is, but on the other hand theres no point setting out to make waves either.

LOL
1) Oldies can post stupid questions as much as they like BUT they shouldnt complain when those of us who are sick to death with their (imvho) pathetic ramblings feel enough is enough and voice our opinions.
2) As mark said its not (usually) nasty put downs.

Really? I thought that was pretty nasty.

Time to move on and live and let live.

Why does it need to be a put down at all? Just leave them alone, don't answer!!

There are many times in life that we want to say "oh boll@%ks" but we don't, we just smile nicely and leave it alone. That makes for a much happier place.

Now I'll let you go get me a drink in the bar, sweetie :D

No, I agree, ...some people deserve all they get ;) And sometimes the temptation not to just say nothing is too strong....but sometimes the joke is wasted, and well...its hard to judge in what spirit a comment is made or taken, so if offence is caused its best just to apologise and move on eh!

Wow you are right....if I had been on the receiving end of that I would have had to go for a lie down! ;)

This is only a forum at the end of the day it's not the be all and end all. It isn't however a childs nursery school so due to human nature it's not going to be fluffy bunnies and lolly pops all the time. (sorry icemaiden)

To be honest I don't really feel comfortable being in a position of not agreeing with you cos you always seem well informed and provide good info. So I agree that something one person may not be bothered about another may find insulting.

Suffice it to say that in my personal opinion some people are far too sensitive, and should take anything said on here with a pinch of salt.

Well, I'm not saying it was life threatening, but its not something I would like someone to say to my Gran either ;) Thin end of the wedge and all that, erosion of common decency yadda yadda yadda...

I know its not a nursery school. If, however, you think that it is ok to answer a simple question with either a very sarcastic or insulting answer then just wait until your son starts answering you back!!

A simple answer of "Do a search as this has been answered many time before" would suffice.

If anyone has any probs with my answers then they can meet me in the bar and buy me a drink :D

So what if the question has been asked 100 times before - if you don't have time to answer it, then leave it to those who do. So what if the questions seems stupid to you - perhaps the person is not familiar with the Internet or with message boards etc. etc. so cut them some slack.

There have been a few posts on here recently from newcomers complaining about snotty replies. If the question has been asked 5000 times before, surely a proper response might be to suggest that the poster searches for similar threads - and tell them how to do it. I know that there are instructions, sometimes newcomers don't even know where to find the instructions. Or just answer the question again. Is it such a big deal?

I think if you don't have anything nice or constructive to say - then don't bother saying it! I would think it was very hurtful to be a newcomer asking a "stupid" question and getting a rude snotty response.

And now I suppose I will get responses saying that their mission in life is not to be nice to people - that is their prerogative - I personally try to be nice most of the time.

I always like your posts Liz you always seem so friendly and willing to help, more people should be like that. If your ever in Edinburgh your welcome for a cup of tea lol :D
