How many times have people been directed to the CIC website, surely it cant be that hard to find and I would have thought one of the first things you would start looking for if you were serious about immigration.

I found the board useful to ask the odd specific question during the process but wouldn't have relied on it to guide me through the whole thing.

I think there has been a change in the mood of the forum since the last major episode that resulted in the Maple Leaf being created, since then there are still moans about thread content. i.e. sending Karma, being mean to newcomers.

I have heard people say that they think the UK is a nanny state, it looks like this forum is heading in the same direction. So new rules need to be added to the posting guidelines then:

1. Always be positive and nurturing to all posters, especially newcomers.
2. Do not mention whether you have or have not sent Karma

Any other suggestions for new posting rules?

There is never a need to post "I have sent you a pm". Either the content of the pm is of general interest and could go in the thread or it's only of interest to the reader in which case we don't need to know it exists.

Nope, usually it's chat or some question that needs answering within the next five years or so, often it's an advert.

Well said Liz!

I am fed up of some of the nasty comments that pop up on here from time to time. There really is no need.

If you haven't got anything nice to say......

What a load of cobblers. Someone asks a stupid question, they deserve a stupid answer. Use the search button, it's not rocket science.
Most people are too tight to pay for a consultant (especially the "I'm a brain surgeon looking to land in Antarctica" people) and expect everyone to give them the information they need for free. Fair enough to a point, but it's all been answered a million times before.
Everyone should be encouraged to follow the lead and respond with the same attitude as Andrew Miller in the immigration section.

I'm not a newbee but have you ever used the search facility? It aint great! I personally can appreciate (after using it several times myself) people 'just asking' it's waaaay less hassle and most people like helping other people anyway and it offers a rehash of often important topics - so who gives a *****?

.

But not by that person. If you dont want to answer this time around, then dont. Simple.

Civility and good manners cost nothing, and its the lack of simple manners and civility thats taking UK society down the crapper.

If people don't understand civility and good manners, it no wonder that children are growing up the way they are. Children learn by immitation, so if we want nice polite children we should be practising it ourselves!!

Come on give the next generation something to build on.

Sometimes I see silly questions on here. For example here's one I read today, "Do you need a driving license in Canada"? I choose to ignore these postings, rather than say something nasty. There's enough of that as it is. Many peeps are stressed with emigrating, and afterwards when they get to Canada and have trouble settling etc. I use (or try to remember to) the search facility before posting a question. I try and be nice and help where I can, I've had a lot of support on here and appreciate it :)

OK.

Since it was my response to Liz that sparked all this off I'm going to have my say.

1) It isn't just newbies that post 'stupid' questions or comments.
2) With the very very odd exception I have never had a go at any newbie for asking what others (or even I) consider a 'stupid' question
3) Certain individuals who post on this board have been in Canada for a long time and shouldnt need to ask half the things they do.
4) We all have bad days
5) As has been said before if you dont like a post(er) then just ignore it(them)
6) If you're looking for nicey nicey all the time this isnt the place to find it.

1) Why can't 'oldies' post questions too - stupid or not - it may not seem stupid to them
2) Why isn't this the place for nicey nicey all the time??? why does there have to be a put down?
