It was so cold in Kentucky on Monday that an escaped prisoner turned himself in. Robert Vick, 42, escaped from a minimum-security prison on Sunday, the Associated Press reported, but as temperatures dropped through the floor on Monday he walked into a motel and asked the clerk to call the police so he could escape the freezing air.

Why is that, Novo?
Currently a bracing -33 in Regina and the wind's supposed to get bad, but the forcast is very nice, so all is forgiven!

I know. If he's been outside too long in those temperatures he may of got himself a chill so he'll need some Vick's to help him sleep more comfortably.

Possibly wondering if he had the vapours or imagining the governor of the prison responding with "Is Vick there?"

I'd never seen that Monty Python skit. Vick is a common name in that part of America, (remember Michael Vick of dogfight trial fame?), and for all we know the prisoner may have actually been related to Dr. Vick from N Carolina for whom Vick's vaporub was named. There is a Vicksburg in Kentucky, but no prison there. I think the big Vicksburg where the Civil War battle took place is in Missouri.
-25 in Regina, it's warming up! :-)

The wind last night from the lake was wicked. There was no one on the ice rink below. I have never seen the rink empty when it is open...there are usually a handful of people skating into the early hours of the morning...no matter what the weather.

maybe they all skated over to the island. I don't think I've ever seen the ice extend so far beyond the island

And the steam was just spooky

The ice has spread out westwards tody....way past the island airport. Odd as it's so much warmer.

Last week when it was warmer we were walking by the lake and saw a coyote running back and forth on the ice. It was about halfway across the lake from the island. When we got back we watched it through binoculars...desperately trying to find its way back to the island amongst the thawing ice. Just before darkness fell it found its way home.

air temp is warmer but the lake will stay much colder and for a much longer time. All to do with physicsy stuff you see

I have never seen the ice so extensive. Its kind of pretty until I have to go outside. The sidewalks by our place are okayish but where I work they are slick with ice still

On Monday we walked to the Aquarium...which is more or less just behind us. The footpaths were lethal...particularly at the road junctions. Walking back we walked through the snow by the Roundhouse...much better to walk on than ice.

Have I mentioned we are off to Florida in just over 2 weeks?
