Yes. We're working from home (see, I'm typing just as if I went in). Yesterday there was almost no one in the office and those who were there either arrived late or left early. Some of the commutes are bonkers though, we're 30 miles of back roads, so there's little chance of a delay once on the paved bit, but people come (to Guelph) from Ajax, Scarborough, Oshawa, Barrie and, in one crazy case, Orono. (Also from all over the US but they only have to deal with the 401 from the airport). Oshawa has to be two hours each way on a good day and yet I know a dozen people who do it.

It's not right to think going to Canada is escaping M25-ish traffic, not here anyway.

Currently -11F at O'hare according to weather channel, with -27F if you add in the windchill. Supposed to see +8F for the high.

- 20.5F here, feels like -43C according to the Weather Network. My jacket went crunchy in seconds.

That's colder than here, which is unusual.

Get thee to Home Depot. I want one of these. HD doesn't keep many in stock in-store, however.

On a similar note, I'd been looking for some decent gloves for ages. On the advice of my stepson, I just bought these. My search is over. They are the dog's bollocks.

Leave the curtains or blinds open during the night.

I think I might go for the gloves. Meanwhile here, the 4' fence has disappeared under the snow and I2C has just opened the front door to let in a cloud of what seems like theatrical dry ice and carried her dog bodily outside - the dog being too bright to walk out into that temperature.

YYZ is on a ground stop until 9am when it will be re-evaulated. Its a complete mess there right now from the reports.

From YYZ twitter:

"Extreme cold causing equipment freezing and safety issues for employees. Ground stop in effect until at least 9:00 am."

I'm not sure where you'd get them. I bought mine in Sports Experts. The only Ontario branches of that place are in Ottawa and Brockville (there are very few branches outside of QC).

Judging from the YOW departures board, flights to YYZ should start about 9am.

Air Transat's website says current departure is 23:59.... Gatwick departures board still says 17:20.... I am keeping my fingers crossed... I am not optimistic... zzzzzz... *sips G&T anxiously*

Odd to see the lake covered with what looks like steam as the cold air hits the warmer water. Fortunately the clouds then seem to be drifting south east towards the US and not towards Toronto.

Website generally is the more accurate one as it comes directly from the airlines systems, where airport departure boards sometimes rely on someone changing the time manually.

I know when I worked in airline operations, during ireg operations, I would tend to forget about the airport departure boards, or I'd be out on the ramp or gate area dealing with stuff, and simply could not go and update it each time the time changed.

(My station only saw 10 flights per day, so we only had 1 operations agent per shift)

Where has AX gone?

He hasn't posted for five days. I hope he is not without power.

I was thinking the same thing.

It's well frigid where I am (at home, which is where I'll be staying today).
