As someone who had/has gay friends in the UK its not just about marriage or tax, a good example very close to me, lesbian couple of 15 years, one committed suicide and her family took possession of her remains and belongings etc and kept the funeral location a secret and why ? Because they didn't agree with her lifestyle and they where her legal next of kin. Is it right or fair ? How would any of us feel if our wife or husbands family did that after loosing someone you love ?
All her friends could do was lay flowers where she died and only because i knew the Bridge Master and could get that info as its not made public.
Her partner never even got to know where her ashes where scattered either.
People see this as an assault on the sanctity of marriage but it isn't, its about basic rights that WE ALL TAKE FOR GRANTED ! If those rights where removed for hetrosexual couples there would be civil unrest !

In what way? Apparently the birth certificate can have individuals named as parent rather than mother or father.
