Certainly the Goallie has become very much the scape goat for the loss. By all accounts his performance was poor. But is everybody missing the fact that Canada simply aren't scoring enough goals and whilst you can point to high shots in the games against Switzerland and the US they are clearly not creating enough decent openings.

I'm with Souvy on this one. Canada did OK and, except in the face off circle, they outplayed the Americans for long stretches of the game. Miller was outstanding but Brodeur let in a couple he would normally expect to stop. That was the difference in the game.

I thought the game was entertaining enough but I was suprised by the lack of intensity and physicality bearing in mind the reputation ice hockey has. Compared to say six nations and the real passion Scotland/Ireland/Wales have when they entertain their bigger neighbour it seemed a bit flat.

I'm waiting for the Tronno Maple Laff fans to start believeing they're going to be in the playoffs this season because their manager Brian Burke won a game. with the USA team.

Some (read Don Cherry) believe it has spoiled the game. He made a fortune producing and selling tapes/DVD's of violence scenes in the NHL (Rockem Sockem Hockey). He may have trouble making them from today's tamer game.

Hockey has been tamed in recent years. I don't recall seeing any fisticuffs last evening, whereas in years gone bye it was almost de rigeur. Blood on the ice was more common than not. Every team had at least one enforcer whose job was to protect the team's star(s) or takeout the opposition's star(s). Probably, to a great extent, the result of those in the public who believe the physicality sets a poor example for young people.

Well I wonder if thats because its the olympics and other international events and the players have been told to knock it off regarding fighting. Arent the rules for the olympics stricter than for the NHL - dont know just asking......

There are a different set of unwritten rules that the players follow in international hockey.
There is no need for an enforcer to protect the stars because they are all stars
There is no need for a fight to stir up the emotional level of the game because they are playing for their country and it doesn't get more emotional than that.
The teams don't play each other often enough to get a genuine dislike of each other.
