I passed the BC driving test today.....

Unfortunatley i cant get a lesson before the test, it was a last minute cancellation they rang and offered me, but there is no driving instructor actually in Pemberton, or Whistler, and the one guy in Squamish wont be up here this week!
So, i am just reading the book from ICBC, and trying to really think about it when i drive around, and reading all your experiences on here.
Have taken on board the need for total OTT shoulder checking

The other thing you might need to know about is the "hazard perception" bit where they ask you to point out "hazards". Usually you can include: other cars, parked cars, side streets, intersections, sunny weather (if it is), rainy weather (ditto), buses, cyclists, trucks, etc, etc.
Lane changes should be gradual.
Make sure you can parallel park and reverse stall park. And know your hand signals! They'll ask you to demonstrate left turn, right turn and slowing down/stop at the start. Also, make sure you have enough gas (duh) and that all your lights/indicators are working.

hi Robski~...sounds like you are being well prepared....just a thought i had .whilst reading your post.......be aware..of school zones!..they are instant fail if you miss one and drive through it at normal speeds in the day!..........when i did mine...there was a whopping big Truck parked right beside where the school zone sign was...lucky for me..i had been down past that particular school once!! so i knew it was there..phew!!!....and even she was releived when i started to slow down and then i went ..oh there it is! i thought there was a school zone along here!!.....she made mention of the truck and how she was praying i would still it!!...lucky me huh!!

I'm glad that someone else is benefiting from my extensive experience of the road test (other than various driving instructors and ICBC that is). I don't think the hand signals thing is a pass/fail issue, it's more to make sure you know what to do in the case of your indicators not working. Oh and don't panic if you accidentally misinterpret the examiner's instructions ("oh turn right at *those* lights"), they'll just get you to do whatever's necessary to get you back on the right course.

Weee Heeeeeeeee and PHEW

I passed, it was totally fine, she just told me at the end i had been a little bit too cautious
What did she expect? She was sat next to me!!!
So, she had me do hand signals and checked my lights and indicators, and then we just drove around a load of residential areas and down the highway for total of about 40 minutes.
She mentioned hazard perception at the begininning but then didnt actaully ask me to do any. Only manouver she asked for was a 3 point turn, and then had me reverse park back at the office.
It was really fine, good luck to anyone who still has to do it.

For anyone that's wondering, three-point turns are illegal in the City of Vancouver.
