Hurricane Bill is heading towards Nova Scotia at the moment, and has just been upgraded to a category 4, due to reach here around Sunday (the day we'd booked a whale watching trip in the Bay of Fundy
)
I know there are quite a few newcomers in NS at the moment who probably haven't experienced storms like this here. It's hard to tell how much damage will be done, if any, but it is a good idea to stock up now on essentials like water, candles etc. just incase we loose power - they said on the radio this morning be prepared for 72 hours without services.

So enlighten me, what are the benefits of living in NS? I have read threads recently on problems with wells, having to rustproof anything metal.......

Good Luck out there... It should lose a lot of ferocity by the time it gets there, but it could be a bumpy ride for a bit

Well, some say by the time the hurricane hits land (Bermuda in a few days) it'll have slowed down to a category 1 hurricane. Hopefully, no damage will be done. Here's another site to track the hurricane http://mashable.com/2009/08/17/hurricane-bill/
my blog as a little something about this too: http://nature-log.blogspot.com/

Hope the hurricane weakens before it heads our way, but regardless of hurricane or not, everyone should have candles and flashlights (don't call them torches here because that a stick with a flame on top). Due to the power cables being above ground, high winds and lightening storms can cause power outages. We have only had a few a year, usually only lasting less than an hour but one did last for about 4 hours.
For those of you on wells and private sewage, they don't work without power because they are driven by pumps.
Strangely enough Tim Hortons always has power
